In a push to make the PlayStation division of Sony profitable they have reviewed the makings of the PS3 to look for optimizations. The newest PlayStation 3 console costs Sony $448.73 to produce rather than the $690.23 it previously cost them.

This of course raises the question, is Sony going to lower the price of the PS3? This seems like it could go either way. In a market like this, it would make sense to minimize losses. But, for Sony may have to make the cut to compete with the Wii and XBox.

I believe it will be the latter because the Playstation division has lost $3.4 BILLION in the last 2 fiscal years. What makes matters worst is that November sales of the PS3 dipped 19%, while the XBox was up 8.6%, while the Wii *more than doubled* its sales. It can be argued that the other consoles are on different playing `fields`, but at the end of the day if your `field` is losing money... move.

With the gifting part of the holidays coming to and end many new consumers are sitting next to brand new PS3s. In order to ramp up new users Sony decided to post a new how-to video everyday next week. Today they started with the basics: How to create and view a slide show.

 Obsidian Suit

I was on the us.playstation.com site and noticed the Obsidian suit was ready for download already as part of EA's big hoo-ray for gaving it go gold in pre-orders. This suit is excusive to the ps3 and will ony be around for a limited time... (like the first two weeks of the release date) so download it as soon as you can. you might be wondering why should I bother? well Sony gave this description

"This amazing Level 5 suit features the jet black PLAYSTATION®3 colors, upgraded toughness, and extra inventory slots".

Scorpion Suit

The scorpion suit is also ready for download... at a cost. Sony gave this description

"Download the exclusive Scorpion Suit now! Equip Isaac with this stunning Level 5 suit featuring enhanced armor and extra inventory slots."

as you can see not any diffrent from the Obsidian suit, just a diffrent look.

Dead Space is set for release on Oct 14th.

This is definitely a day for the history books, every ones hard work and perseverance has paid off. A Japanese developer has dropped a bomb of a release he has finished a filer program that will allow you to view jpg, gif and png files, but that isn't the best part there is also a NES emulator in there as well.

Installation:

• Unzip the ps3filer.zip archive 

• Copy NES ROMs to the AVCHD directory

• Copy the AVCHD directory to the root of a USB/Flash drive

• Go to the device in the XMB video menu and launch “AVCHD”

Well, well, well, Sony has release another update for their firmware. Firmware 2.42, and if you have not notice yet but when Sony has released a firmware that has .02 then you should know its just to fix the bugs, in the PS3.

Well, they was wrong. Sony will not be releasing Life with Playstation until August 2008, and the bluetooth mic fix? I thought they already did that. From the official Sony website, this is what the director PSN operations, Eric Lempel said:

So what I see it's just a firmware that fixes the bugs to keep the PS3 to run better. To download get it here and make a folder called "PS3" and add a folder called "UPDATE", then put the file in there or just do a network update.

Here's a video with commentary of EA's new Madden NFL 2009 Demo for the Xbox 360.  I skipped over the ridiculous training mode that set your IQ, because I really, really hated it (and the video woulda been a too long).  I'll brief you on that part through the magic of words instead.  The running mode was basically a long, drawn out game of simon says.  The QB mode was the same as the Pocket Prensence drill of the last five years or so.  Then there was the tackling drill, which obviously entailed you tackling the running back.  Finally, there was cornerback coverage drill, which for some reason went into slow motion when I was trying to make an interception.  Anyways, when I got to the actual gameplay, I found out EA has actually done a pretty decent job this year, check it out:

Long in the waiting a homebrew PS3 game has arrived, well two actualy. Dragula96 has released a working Pong for two player and clasic Snake !!!!! they may be old school but its a start and who knows where it could lead. all made possible via a discovery courtesy of silenoz… Using the BD-J (Blu-ray Disc Java).

TVersity 1.0 RC2 has just been released lately, with some much needed features added, as well as some enjoyable ones. One of my most favorite changes has to be the support for album art. The image isn't limited to the icon that Windows Media Player or Winamp produce, but you can also use your own art by using the naming convention included in the readme. While this release isn't a full on v1.0 release, it is still very close. The album art interface is also not limited to Wiis but any HTML (PS3's, Blackberries, iPhones, PSP's, etc.) and Flash (Wii!) interface. Here is the changelog for your viewing pleasure:

So it's finally here, the 2008 E3 Media & Business Summit. Today is the day. It will last until the 16th. But what can you expect for the next few days? Well, for starters, you won't here anything today about Sony. Microsoft and Electronic Arts will be dishing it out at 10:30 am PT / 1:30 pm ET and 3:00 pm PT / 6:00 pm ET respectfully. But tomorrow on the 15th, we'll see what Sony brings to the table.

For the PS3, you may hear new information about games like God of War III or possibly Heavenly Sword 2, but don't hold your breath on the second one. You may also hear about future firmware expectations as well as coverage on the new 2.41 firmware. If I had to put my money where my mouth is, I'd say Sony will also discuss the "Greatest Hits" collection. Japan already has it, and Europe is getting it soon, so it seems like a worthy mention.

For the PSP developments, things are very up-in-air. I think we will definitely be hearing about a Patapon 2 and/or Loco Roco 2 in the works since Sony wants to show it cares about UMD sales.I think we'll also hear big developments from Ubisoft. They are planning to release a whopping 12 PSP titles this fiscal year, and so far these have remained secret. Rayman is expected, but what else? I think we're going to find out! I also expect that Sony will talk more about downloadable content. Sony seems like they are aiming to make the PS Store accessible directly from the PSP itself instead of only on computer. It would be interesting if Sony revealed a "PSP Trophy" system similar to PS3 Trophies and Xbox Achievements, but that's not likely. Lastly, I'm wondering how Sony plans to market the PSP through the holiday season. New colors, bundles, accessories? I guess we'll have to wait until the 14th! Gamespot will have live coverage here, so enjoy!
