A good first project?

I'm interested in writing a homebrew program for the Wii or PSP. Considering SNES emulators are really common, I want to make an NES emulator. Am I being too ambitious for somebody who hasn't made anything for either console? Any advice from those in the know?
This is a sig. You may think that there is something to it, but in fact it is just an ordinary sig.

Okay, emulation will be way too hard for you to start coding if you've never ever tried to code before.
I would suggest learning LUA.
You can use LUA on both the PSP and Wii and then you can pick up C from there, which also can work on both. ^_^

Use this to start with programming for the PSP!
The tutorials are great! Be sure to go in order!!
