It means that some people are now in possession of the Wii firmware. Once it is decoded it may be possible to hack it and get some homebrew on the Wii.

With Wii updating online and through games, I think the Wii may go the way of the PSP, with custom firmwares for the Wii, and having to update as Nintendo updates.
