I want to buy an SD card to use exclusively for wii homebrew software. I won't be using any piracy things, just original software, including games, mplayer and perhaps even the linux distro.

How big an SD card should I get? Is 2GB an overkill?

as of now 2gb is the limit. Also, this should be in a different section such as help, or maybe in the apps section.

But you misunderstood me: I know what the maximum is, I mean how much space is too much, in the sense of "I'll never fill that much"?

SD cards are not that much, so you might as well go with 2gb. If you want to run any media on your Wii such as movies or mp3's, or emulators (i know you said legal stuff, but ya never know). There could be more and more advanced brew released in the future that will require more space. Best to be prepared.

Besides, it's always nice to just have different media around.

And 2GB SD cards come by really cheap now a days. I see them $20 all the time.
