DVD+R is the worst media ever. You should never buy +R anything...
Generally, -R gives the best compatibility, but with the backup loader I can't give you specific advice cause I've never used it.

All those stories about media and being able to be read are all crap. I've been using the cheapest DVDs for all the Wii 'backups' I've made. My first set of DVD's I made in 2006 when I first got my Wii are still playable with no disc read errors.
Of course, media degradation is real, and I'm sure there's going to be some affect 20-30 years down the road, but whatever.

I use crappy DVD+R's for my Wii and 360 media and have never had a problem.

RW discs aren't good to use. If you think about it, original discs are stamped, meaning they are going to last longer and be more accurate meaning few disc read errors. -R and +R use a chemical dye to imitate the stamped versions which mean they may not be as accurate, but they are a 1 time burn and can't be changed after that. RW media is meant to be written, erased, written... see where I'm going here?
