I am new and cannot connect to the internet through my wii console. Please help

I would say read the instruction manual. It's pretty straight forward connecting to the internet. I'm assuming you have a wireless router at home. Just go into the settings, select the detected router, enter in an security info, and you're good to go.

I am sorry maybe I should have been a little more through. I am using wii homebrew and trying to connect to the internet but I click on wii shop and it tells me to update my system but you suggest not to do so. please help.

You don't really need Wii shop if you have Homebrew, you're just asking for trouble trying to connect to the net via your Wii. Just use your PC. If you update your console, say goodbye to your hacks

There are methods of upgrading parts of your Wii such as the Wii shop without updating system components that will prevent homebrew. Seeing as how you don't really know what you're getting into, I wouldn't recommend partial upgrades like that.
