So today i decided to install Windows 7 Ultimate release on my sisters computer (since it runs better then Vista) and after just getting started her laptop turns off. No warnings, like someone unplugged the power..
So i ask her if its happened before and she said all the time (hey, shes 11, if it just works sometimes shes happy). So i test it out a little and load up the OS on the HDD (Vista) and it turns off the same way.
Anybody know if this is a common problem? More importantly, is there a fix?

This might sound like a stupid question, but just making sure, you do have it plugged in an outlet right?

Yea i finally got it to stay on long enough to load Win 7...finally.
I think its a hardware/BIOS issue myself.

Its not vista nor windows 7. there is something hardware wise wrong on the computer most likely, so I would phone up the company and talk to them about it. If they don't help / repair (hi my fathers was out of warranty and they replaced it and had it fixed and shipped within 4 days. that surprised me!) try doing some software testing in the bios or what not. Make sure that the hard drive is the first thing to boot. When checking it try turning off all other bootable things just to make sure so then the hard drive is the only thing that will and can boot. Also try making sure nothing is connected to it. Power, Mouse, Keyboard, Monitor etc. Because I know on my computer if I have my external hard drive attached and I try to boot it takes like 20+ minutes half of the time it doesn't even boot. So I have to disconnect it, and I don't even have it in the boot order. If none of that works. I would take out the hard drive and through in yours. See if it works. If it does then there could be possibly something wrong with the drive, right now that is what I am thinking it is. But I'm no expert

I had that same exact problem with my laptop it started off just turning off (hp laptop) and then I got my first BSOD then it BSOD'd like 3 times a day. It just kept getting worse and worse until I couldnt even turn it on cause when I try it just keeps the screen black. Finally I threw it off my deck.

Same problem with the same computer back in the day before I got it fixed. It's a common error. If you were to shake the computer while it was running it'd most likely turn off. I sent mine to Compaq to get fixed.

Now it wasn't the exact same computer, but it was still a compaq, but it was also a known problem with the computer. Idk though.

Replace the lithium CR2032 battery on the motherboard. Most motherboards have that type. It seems like either static shock or low bios battery power that is causing the instability. If you can charge the battery to full charge and it doesn't lose power, like 100% to 0% just for turning it on, then you can rule out the battery and the power cord.
If you take out the RAM and it still does it, you can rule out the RAM. You say it'll do this before the operating system even powers on? IF so, then take out the hard drive next and if it still does it then you can rule that out as well.
The three most common problems for this case would be a short, static electricity in the motherboard, or the motherboard battery need replacing. It could be other things but that seems most likely to me.
If you shake it, does it rattle? Could be something in there? - who knows...

HP's are worthless SH!T and you all know it. my (jewish) friends HP HDD died twice in the same week after getting it fixed and my cousins is just retarded. my friend compaq is okay for now but my cousins compaq is utterly useless. not be an @ss but u honestly need to run some brands by me. i know a lot more than it seems and my friends computor is one of the few extreme computors. u all would piss your pants in awe of the machine.<- this meaning he can back me up and give me more info.
i meen damn his dad co wrote microsoft word for MAC and his dads submarine(me and him are navy brats) was in transformers 2. he was not, but he got to revise the script. and an auto graphed picture of the satan woman megan fox. his dad is a genious coder along with him. i have back up. u an trust me.
and me RANTING is now over. thanks for sitting through that.
EDIT: and i know a crap load bout all OS's. u dont need take my advice, but its a decent idea.
