Going through my rom collections and trying to compile complete collections for certain systems. However there's 1 big roadblock... most collections haven't named the roms correctly. I did find 1 excellent utility to rename SNES roms, but I'm wondering if any of you guys have done this and if you have what utility you used. Thanks

Don't think you understand...

I have collections of roms with thousands of files in them. I'm not going to go through and figure out what all the roms are supposed to be named (i.e. Super Mario Brothers and not SMB). Catch my drift?

No offense but I don't think I could be such a prevalent member here and not know how to simply rename a file...

oh yeah, sorry i didnt get what you were saying. but either way i think that is going to take a long time. Its not like windows media player where there is a huge data base of song names to match up your unknown albums to...

Actually, for all the old school systems there are databases of common good dumps. There are several programs that can compare your collection to these databases so you can see what roms you have, don't have, are misnamed, and so forth... the problem is some are more intuitive than others.

I have a program just for snes roms that will compare roms to the database and based on checksums and other info will automatically rename the files. I can't find a program for other systems with the same capability...

Im not sure but as the same as Wii ISO's there should be a GAME ID in each one if you found a program which identified it and gave it the name acordingly possibly.

I have more than one collection of snea roms with each over 1500 files each. Nes roms well over 2000. Sega genesis roms I think in the 800 range. I've also got other systems but I don't have a complete enough collection of those to care about yet. My next laptop is going to kind of be my "all in one" game platform to play all my retro consoles since the systems themselves are at home in the states and I'm here in Australia. For now i'm working on organizing and collecting. I just updated fusa gamepad on my psp and was using that for some old school super Mario 2 action today and that got me thinking about my collections, hence I stand before you guys with this problem.

And unfortunately alex it's not as simple as matching game ids...
