The world is going all lollercoasterz about the PSN being down, but lots of slim PS3's can still access the PSN lol. Seriously, browse for recent news and comments on this. It's hilarious!

One guy even destroyed his PS3's internet port! OMG, great humor.

Haha, those people need to get out more. I tried connecting earlier and it didn't go through so I just said "ok".

Whatever you do, don't turn on the older model PS3s. Literally its like Y2K and they are having serious clock problems, if you turn it on you risk losing game saves, trophies and other data.

You can't even say that when Live has probably had just as many problems, if not more. This is the first time PSN has ever acted up.

Its actually Y2.01k like Y2K. The internal clock in the inside hit this certain number, which is today's date causing these problems. Sony really didn't have anything to do with it, its a natural phenomenon that happens. Its kind of funny hearing all these people flip out that they can't play their PS3's for 1 DAY. Come on people go outside!

Its also even more sad that people are resorting to taking apart their systems and unplugging the battery to fix it. I seriously do not recommend this, not only will it void your warranty but potential side effects may happen. Just wait for the fix.

It has nothing to do with the PSN lol.

So far my PS3 has been pretty much fine other than the clock being off and no PSN.
I read they expect the problem to be fixed by tomorrow at the latest.

Edit: The clock is showing the correct time now, I guess it is fixed.

-_- i wont be an donkey about what a douche your trying to be, but i will say this.

A. its temp. RRoD is not
B. when was the last PS3 issue ever? never YLoD was long dissolved and easily fixed.
C. i have no issues on mine, and sony will replace what it fixes. AND IT WILL WORK AGAIN. NO ISSUES

can you say any of that to an xbox? no.

A. RRoD is TEMP, If you know how to fix it...I did just that with washers as screws. All I need to do is Solve the overheating issue. Wich I will solve with A new fan and Much Better Heat Sink Compound.

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:

* The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
* When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
* When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”
* When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
* Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For the latest status on this situation please continue to check either the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.

There hasn't been a single error on the PS3 that can even compare to the xbox RRoD problem. Fixing it by replacing the heatsink is irrelevant as it voids your warranty. The sheer number of RRoD'd xboxs, combined with the number of returned xboxs that have yet again RRoD'd is just unbelievable. Not to mention if you're hit with the problem, you have to ship the friggin box to Microsoft and wait for them to send you back another one.

This is a minor issue that isn't breaking hardware. Simple update and everyone is good to go.

I would void warranty any day to get my box to stop RRoD and working all the time
