Here are things you should not get.

Limewire Pro- Loaded with spyware and im nearly sure you wont know what to do if anything is to happen to your computer.

Mcafee- A really slow anti virus, there is far better out there aswell.

Norton- Prob the worse anti virus ever...

What you should get.

FireFox- Fantastic browser with excellent add-ons (noscript, fasterfox, adblock, videodownloader, etc.)

Photoshop- A really fun and useful program.

Avast/Kaspersky- I personally use Avast anti virus and I love it. Its fast, efficient, easy. As for kaspersky, ive never used but I hear its fantastic.

Ad-Aware SE- This nifty spyware hunter detects a lot and works very well.

You must tell me what you plan to do with your computer so I can recommend advanced software. There are tons of programs that I find useful but would be of no use to you because I do far different things on my computer then you do.

Also if you need any help finding this software let me know and I can point you towards a safe way of getting it, but dont expect me to get into details.

He wanted to know what programs to get, hence how much he is paying is not gonna help him decide which programs to get.

What are the specs of the computer? I mean, you guys are sitting here blindly recommending programs and maybe they aren't the best for the system itself.
