Running on Windows XP SP3.
Any recommendations on what good and/or great virus/adware/spyware programs w/ integrated firewall out there that are free?

AVG or Avira.

Spybot.

I use AVG on Windows 7, so far no probs.

I use Avast, Comodo, Malwarebytes Anti-malware, and spybot depending on the situation.

Although NOD32 is pretty cheap and the best I have ever used.

I think AVG is the more common one, since it's one of the more old school favorites. I've used it for maybe 5 years now and it's been great. Spybot is good for spyware, been using that for a long time as well.

As far as firewalls go, software firewalls only keep out the amatures. When it comes to real security threats, a software firewall can EASILY be circumvented. You'll need a hardware firewall for actual protection, which isn't really all that practical since they are usually used to host VPN clients as well and tend to be 'spensive.

If you've got windows 7, there's nothing wrong with window's antivirus and firewall.

avira, avg(fights with avira), adaware, malware bytes are all good.

i use avira (free) avg(free) and a government issue norton (free for life, better than paid)



in linux, i use avira and he ubuntu built-in complete security.

I don't understand the point of a anti virus, I haven't had a virus / spyware etc in a really long time and when I did get it them half the time it wasn't my fault Just know what you are downloading and clicking. I for one download and click on a lot of things But I do use Avast just in case. As well as Malware Bytes but to use the assassins file killer thing to delete files that sometimes just don't delete.

for auxilary deleting, i use hijack this.


i like having virus software. i get attacked at facebook atleast twice a week. keep this in mind.

My computer got a virus a couple of days ago and I was able to repair/re-install with a XP SP2 disc I had. The computer still says it has spyware, malware, etc. Which of these you listed would be good for finding and removing these things? Malwarebytes shows nothing is wrong, same as McAFree or whatever it's called. I did a manual call of Windows malware removal and it said it deleted some things but didn't tell me what or how much.

Malwarebytes isn't an antivirus program, its just to fill in the gaps.. Try AVG free (if you want firewall+web shield than go for internet security(paid or pm me for a serial)... avast! wouldn't be too much of a bad idea but it does't find tracking cookies and thats why I stick with AVG Internet Security..

avg fights with everything!!! avira, malwarebytes and my special government issue norton all seem to have trojan downloaders. uh, no?
