How a dvd player differs from a DVD ROm

How a dvd player differs from a DVD ROm in reading a disk? I hv been hearing that a dvd player and a DVD ROM differ in their operation of reading a disk....A DVD Rom uses the famous laser technology ..Then how,does the DVD player operate?

Whenever you see -ROM on the end of DVD or CD, or even Blu-ray, that means that the discs are intended for use on a PC instead of a DVD player. Sometimes, you can play something on both but have more features if you play the DVD on your computer. It uses the same technology for being read, but the computer can understand an work with more code than a standard DVD-player.

then why do movies work better on a normal dvd player than the one on your pc? (even with an awesome graphics card)... software?

.... Your monitor has a lot to do with it.... If your PC has a CTR monitor, it's going to look worse than an up-converting DVD player on an HD TV, right? ;)

I've got a worse TV than PC monitor :P....
Have an old flatscreen tv 29".... And the monitor is a 19" LG HD LCD
