Email from Sony

I E-mailed Sony asking them of their stance on future PS2 compatibility and of a new idea.

Here is what they said:
"SCEA is continuously engaged in extensive research and development in many areas, including without
limitation, consumer toys and games, computer and video entertainment products, and other products
for consumer marketplace. SCEA may have developed, or may in the future develop, materials similar
or identical to those presented to SCEA by you. Due to the overwhelming submission of ideas,
concepts, and designs for products and our continual research and development, SCEA is unable to
accept ideas and inventions, which have not been requested by SCEA. In addition, we are sorry to
tell you that you will not be compensated if a product that is similar or identical to your
suggestion is produced. We hope you understand our position on this matter and we apologize for the
inconvenience."

Maybe it is sort of auto-mated. I'm not sure how authentic it is.

Check this out "In addition, we are sorry to tell you that you will not be compensated
if a product that is similar or identical to your suggestion is produced."

Lol I had no intention of being compensated or anything. I didn't even know you could get anything for it, would be cool though :P.

So with that email being stated, I guess there are possible future plans for easier PS2 compatibility, and more user-friendly.

Yo even if it is automated they really just told you hey when someone actually does look at your idea/invention that if they like it there gunna take it and never even mention that you existed and gave them and idea to better them selves.
i changed my mind about religion, sony is the devil and psp brew is god, and all its members are the angels.

Lol. Well IF my idea does come to reality I have you guys to prove I thought of it :P.
BTW this is what I sent them:

I wrote:Hello, I have a question about the PS3's backwards compatibility. Would it be possible to allow PS3
owners to rip their PS2/PS1 games to their PS3's in order to play them? If you could add that
feature then it would be a great investment.
Rather than having the PS3 read the disc and play it, we could just put the files on the PS3. Or put
PS2 games up for download in the PSN and have some proof of purchase so you can download the game
for free (If you own it) - But that seems highly unlikely since this method could be cheated. Or
possibly stick the PS2 disk in the PS3 to verify ownership.
Please give me some feedback whether any of this would is possible, and if it is planned in a future
update. (Well you don't have to tell me, but this would be a good substitute for PS1/PS2 disc
playback.

Thank you for your time.

So it looks like somebody really did read it.
i would say try sending in a really dumb idea and see if you get the same message.
and that does seem like a good idea.

Well you got lucky to even get a response

but won't your proposal open a window for pirating, actually it will totally

Depends on what the safety precautions are, they need to come up with some way to prevent it. Some way to prove your purchase and ownership. Even if you have to stick the disc in the PS3 every time you play the game (But only playing the file on the HDD). I would be fine with that, it's just a firmware update away to add the emulator.

well the thing is that there's no way to confirm that the ROM that is dumped is your, s0 that's where the pirating comes in

Well if the official disc is in the PS3, it can be avoided?

H0w would that work, it would still not be able to be confirmed, especially cause of all the new tech with the Blu-Ray writing

They can think of something! lol. I just really wanna play my PS2 games on the PS3. And putting them on a massive HDD would be the best thing ever.

that would really make me wanna buy the PS3 over 360, that would be GREAT

It would definitely make a lot of PS3 owner's happy. I'd pay $500 for an 80 GB PS3 that can do that.
