Don't waste your money on a Duox2 or an aladdin Xt. Sure they are cheaper but they are garbage. Ive installed Duo X 2's before and they just dont allow you the same options as an X3 does. Just get an Xecuter 3 and forget the second controller. Tell your friends to bring their own over.
Ive been ordering alot of stuff from otbmods.com lately, he has good prices and fast shipping. He is currently out of Xecuter 3 chips but they usually cost $55 there. Divineo.com is another good place if you are in Canada but if you are in the US the shipping would be more than if you were to order somplace in the US.
You can get a 250GB hard drive from newegg.com for about $75 or a 320GB for $105. If you use a hard drive bigger than 250GB in size you will need to format it in 32k clusters. Xbox games range anywhere from 1.5 - ~6 GB in size.

Definately get bigger than 160gb though, I have already filled up my PS2 HD with backup games. As for the chips, Necro is so right, do NOT waste ur money on a cheapmod, they are exactely was described - cheap POSes. Oh, and get XBMC. As far as where to get it, I love divineo, they havent failed me yet.

yeah dont limit yourself to evolution-X just because it is simple to use. It lacks many of the features that XBMC and many of the other dashes have. Just download them all. Here is an "apps to get" list (dosnt include emulators):
Xbox media center
Evolution X
Unleash X
Avalaunch
DVD2Xbox
DVDx
XBpartitioner (if the HDD is over 254GB)
I'm sure Ive left something out if I think of any more Ill let you know.

meh, I still disagree, I only have avalaunch and XBMC and Im more than happy. but thanks for reminding me to get DVDx, media center is so glitchy w/ dvd playback. oh and would you install me PSP modchip for me necro?

i did a softmod, which is cheaper and i'm happy with that.
for the isos, i can buy a pack of 50 dvd-r's for less than 50 dollars that play xbox games perfectly.. just throwing in a suggestion.

Links boks and config magic, those were the other two apps you would want.

well you just dont get the same number of features with a soft mod. If you did there would be no market for modchips in the firstplace. I recently tried out softmodding an xbox for the hell of it. There were too many limitations so I wiped the HDD and enabled the chip I had installed already.

Well wtf terdinglage you have a 320 Gig hard drive just like me, you've got the space a total of less than a gig for all those programs wont fill your drive up. No point in not installing them for fun. Granted, EvoX is better for people starting out with a modded system, and UnleashX is more for people who [u]think[/t] they have an "awsome softmodded xbox" but evoX is fun just for making skins for since its so easy and so much fun, and that background animation of fire skin looks awsome while its pulling tracks from your "music" folder. And of sure Ill solder that mod chip. PM me if you ever happen to be on AIM I cant seem to ever catch anybody on anymore.

I wouldnt say that many limitations. I mean, ndure is a pretty crazy setup, with virtual drives and all that. The problem is people who softmod are usually to dumb to use ndure.

Once your Xbox is modded you need not worry about wasting money on DVD-R discs as you can back games up directly off of your hard drive (faster loading times too). And it really isnt that hard. I can send you a link to the tutorial on the website of the company that makes the xecuter 3 later if you want it.

Otherwise, if your not confident, going with nDure wouldnt be a terrible idea. Oh and necro Im just curious, does DVD decryptor handle xbox games?

Sounds like a PC app, I woudnt know. As far as I know in order to play burned discs on a regular xbox the dvd drive needs to be replaced with a non-xbox one. Only problem with that is that it wont be able to read original Xbox discs.

The Xecuter 3 Allows you to install the LCD control pannel (it has ports for the connectors on it) If you already have the Xbox you can install a chip and a good sized hard drive on that budget. TheX3 chip does need too be soldered (a solderless adapter does exist for around $27 US but its an easy solder job. The best way to transfer data is via FTP right to the xbox (very easy to do with Flash Fxp) The LCD control pannel is about another $65. Ill give more info later when im not at work.
