what are cookies on a computer?

i have always been wondering what cookies are on a computer can someone explain what they are and if they are bad?

Its a small file which saves a unique ID tag which is saved on you're computer through a website. Mostly on the file information is stored from the website you were at.
Pretty straight foward.

For example if you have set it to automatically keep you logged in to this website, a cookie is responsible. If you clear ALL your cookies you will simply have to re enter your name and password.

but for some sites that you aren't sure of, you should block cookies from them
because cookies can sometimes be an infected file which then can transer malware
to your computer.

Internet Explorer uses them mostly.
I reccomend you get something called FireFox since it can prevent such things from happening.

Its not like firefox doesnt have the same cookie functions as IE does....

anti virus takes care of the cookie prob ie has, as soon as ie accepts an infected cookie anti vir tells me and i simply.......... DENIED!
BTW, my cuz made a net browser from scratch and has built in keylogging functions and always ask if u want a new window open, its not bad, really simple and easy to use.
