It's official, I now own a brick :(

After hacking and downgrading my PSP for over a year, it's finally bit the dust. The strange part, is the fact that my PSP bricked while flashing a CIntro onto flash1. Apparently it's impossible to brick a PSP via flash1 writing, but somehow this CInrto flash did something wrong and now my PSP is useless

Hopefully you had a custom firmware version. If you did, you would be able to use recovery mode to downgrade to version 1.50 and have your psp back!

And yes, apparently you learned the hard way, but you can brick a psp by writing to either flash 1 or 0.

I never understood why someone would want a cintro instead of a gameboot. Seems that is just one step over the line for me personally.

The thing that REALLY pisses me off, is that I have 3.03 OE-A! And recovery mode won't boot!

And the thing is, I don't see how writing to flash1 can brick my PSP, considering:

A: It wasn't overwriting any file
B: Flash1 contains settings, not the BIOS or OS.

Does anyone have a good suggestion on how to bring my PSP back to life? A new PSP isn't currently an option. I have $200, but I don't want to spend anymore than $150.

Well try taking out the battery overnight so that the nessary files have to be rewritten.

Or

boot up without memo card inserted and then try to geti nto recovery

Or

Buy a new psp

PS
Ive read sonewhere that Cintro flashes to the recovery files as well so u might be screwed maybe not tho.
Also. does ur memo stick light blink wen starting?

What site did you download this from? If you ask me, it sounds like it may have been a download with one of the viruses that delete all the startup files on your PSP.

Impossible bricking when your flashing to Flash1? Umm, sorry but your thinking flash0.

Nope, I got this from QJ.net. I highly doubt it's a virus considering I got the 1st part of the CIntro installer done, but once I flashed the Intro.PMF, it went brick on me.

Ouch, do you remember how much flash memory you had? (not related)

I thought you could brick the psp when flashing regardless of flash 1 or 0 b/c it can still corrupt needed startup files. I still think that there is something you can do... I mean... I'd hate to think that the custom firmware isn't working as a safety net for you.

I will look into your problem.

Mailas brings up a good point about not having room on the flash. That could have caused the brick regardless of what you were flashing. Custom firmware takes up a lot of space. If you just did a clean install of a custom firmware you should be left with 106kb of space (or close to it). If you went OVER that amount of space, your flash would have automatically created an error in itself and made something corrupt... which in your case isn't looking so good if you can't get recovery mode to boot (holding R trigger on power up). You could have used a program like pspfiler and used the hacker mode to clear prx files that you didn't need. Perhaps I will make a tutorial on this to help you guys out in the future. I took out the web browser/ digital camera/ RSS feeds on my psp to make room for customizations.

I appreciate the support, and I'll try and spread the word about Cintros. No way I'm EVER touching those again.

In the meantime, I bit the bullet and spent the last of my Xmas money on a New (used) PSP. I've already downed then upgraded it to 3.03 OE-B, so all is restored. Now, I can see how much I can get for my old PSP on eBay. "For Parts" PSPs tend to go for alot :P

Firmware OE-B, not 1.50.

Wow zero, that fast?

Well, I don't exactly feel like spending $100 on something so tedious to install it could be rendered useless with a simple mistake. Not to mention, I'm impatient, so if I get the money, I'll restore my old PSP and then I'll have 2 :P
