It really depends. With Max OSX it is nearly the exact same as Windows in terms of compatibility with software, and Macs are notorious for not having any large threats for viruses, malware, adware, spyware.
On the downside, Macs tend to cost a lot more.
Are you wanting to build the computer from the ground up or buy something store-bought and what price range are we talking about here?

I have both so lets see
My opinion is MAC is the best for web browsing not because its fast but, because its safe
plus its good for school especially if your going to collage
the negitive part not all pc games or programs can be installed
the task bar or "special" is confussing
The pc is the best for gamming, videos custimization and psp hacking
negitive there are a million viruses
expensive especially if you decide to custimize

if you get a mac, you can partition your hard drive, run boot camp and run vista or xp. and if you get a virus you can format the microsoft partition. thats a way to be able to run your xp programs

True but cost is always the big key. With a Windows based computer, you can build a top of the line gaming computer, that would cost in a store, $2,500, for less than $1,000 if you build it yourself.
Macs don't really have that benefit and for me personally, that is huge. Now, if money is less of a priority, then you could opt to get a Macbook Pro or something along that end and really have a nice system.

It depends on what you're doing. iLife is a really useful program, along with the Mac able to run Windows and Mac OS. I like using a PC for other "good" uses though

Oh and gaming.

Just don't be a retard and know what you download and how to get rid of viruses. Ive downloaded over 250GB of stuff and I have never received a virus that was even somewhat threatening and im running windows xp on a dell dimension E-510

Just remember that PC has better efficiency and better compatibility for the best games
It even has pretty stable proccessors, but you should see Linux on that department lol.

I have to agree with 2rev statement, it really depends on what your
your going to do.
If you are into a more art/style oriented computer, buy a mac.
For gaming writing, surfing the web, listening to music of things, buy a PC.
