Surely there has got to be a possible way to unbrick a NON custom fw psp... sony doesnt take anything out of your psp when they fix it.. and the main stuff for the psp to run is on the 32mb HD built in..and when bricked you cant use the USB.. if you some how could.. then possibly be able to downgrade/upgrade to get it working again or even reformat the HD in it.. does anyone think it should be possible..??

Are you asking for help or just to discuss this topic? If your asking for help to unbrick your psp then I need to move it to the help section....
As for fixing it without taking it apart, that's all sony. They are the ones that built the thing so naturally they know how to fix it. We really don't have a device to rewrite the flash memory on the psp. See Sony has the ability to make a device for whatever they need, and naturally they would make a way out to fix the psp if one broke. Then again I don't know how Sony fixes PSP's. I figured they would just put a new mobo in it. Unless you have soldering skills and all the necessary files on a flash memory chip then go on ahead. But I don't think everyone really has access to that sort of thing.

Either that or sony uses there own custom made version of a "modchip" like microsoft does with xbox's. More like a solderless version type of thing that allows them to easily fix it. Since that's the microsoft test's xbox's. They use the little bus to stick a modchip like device in it to test if the xbox is working properly. That's how modchips came about for xbox's.

oh well actualy talking about it.. i know i have a bricked psp and i dont want to get rid of it because i have spent $477 AUD on it when i got it... at the moment i am looking around for a modchip i can get for it..

Reformatting the hard drive wont do anything because the contents of the flash memory will still be there.
My only advice to you is what you think you shouldnt do, modchip.
Whats so hard about it anyways? Dont people on ebay sell modchips? (I got mine from the source though)

Well, Sony does it with a special memory card that has the needed files on it (nand and some others i believe) and they have a special battery as well (non-rechargable) the combination of the two allows them to rewrite the flash0 files back to sony firmware.

It's been posted on qj.net a few times and a few other sites. People have received their psp's back with a mem stick inside (by mistake of course) and some people have reported being able to purchase these batteries from some sort of pawn shop out in the middle east.

Actually Azukon PM'ed me an article about that. I never understood the battery thing, but from all the stuff I found, you are correct about people finding files on memory cards accidentally left in there PSP's. I still don't quite believe the whole battery thing though. Just seemed retarded when I first heard about it. I know people have said there's a mobo in the battery but I will just prefer not to believe it until someone actually proves it.
