I don't know if everyone has seen this, but here's a video comparing the load times of the two PSPs with FF7: Crisis Core (Slim and Lite on the right):

It's a pretty big difference, Sony wasn't kidding when they said they would be shorter.

It's a bad link...
But I wouldn't doubt it, now with the new cache feature will help a lot. Just like it did for consoles

I'm REALLY wondering the difference in loading times with Sims 2. I bought that game for $24.99 and was horrified with the load times that were both frequent, and long. I still have the game, but I hope that the slim would help that game out because the way I see it - it needs it the most.

Well I don't even think the Slim and Lite will change the speed of any of the Sim games for the PSP because every single Sim game ever made has horrified load times.
Just wondering how does this new cache feature work?

Maybe that is why they gave us 64 instead of 32mb's of memory.

Good thought but no I don't think that is why they gave us 64mbs of flash0 space. I think they did it so themselves can put more xmb themes on the new psp firmwares. But I'm still not sure maybe they are finally figuring that they (Sony) can't compete with the homebrew community, and has finally given up but I still don't think that is the reason this is why I hate Sony they make us think to much.

If you would review things before you post them, .Yunoko, you'd already know how the umd cache feature works. In the other thread you made, "secrets of firmware 3.71" or w/e, it goes into depth about games that have their cache from the umd made into the umdcache.prx. A .prx file is part of the firmware - and where that is stored, is in the internal 64mb onboard nand memory. So, Figz is actually correct.

It all depends on the game... i've seen comparisons of older games where the older psp actually beat the new psp in load times.

I'd expect Sony to put the files inside the umdcache.prx for as many of the top selling games as they can - that way, you'd see mostly faster load times across the board. Then again, I'm actually thinking that Sony is changing for the better. I think they'll do something like what I'm thinking in the future.

Has anyone tested load times of iso's/cso's on the slim? I would imagine the pre-cached info wouldn't be helpful for loading games via the MS.

brentbizzle just a thought don't think they did this though because of the cache feature couldn't sony stop iso's and cso's from working?

You must consider simple input/ output functions. Look at it this way. The umd cache function receives it's input from the umd drive - and gives output to the processor which digitally loads the information faster. Now, the ISO/CSO files receive input from the memory stick and give output to the processor. Therefor, I would think that an instruction needs to be created in order to "re-route" the input path so that instead of bypassing the umd drive and loading an ISO normally, the PSP would receive input from the memory stick - then use the umdcache.prx before putting the instruction through to the processor.
Perhaps an easier idea is to just take the umdcache.prx and make a new ISO loader based off of it. That way, hackers may even be able to make them load faster than Sony will.
