Homebrew Explanation and Installation

Alright, I want to get the whole homebrew thing going.. I'd like to get emulators and play my old games once again.

Current Firmware/Latest Update : 3.73
(guessing that "system software" is the firmware, under the system settings menu)

I'd like to get this whole thing going, but I dont want to random plug in files and see if it works.. I dont care much for customization, just being able to get the emulator running.. PSX is what I would like to have.. Someone please help me out with all this semi-complex stuff. Helper gets umm.. pie!

EDIT: I know about the tutorials but, until I get more familiar with the whole homebrew... Ill wait, tutorials are bad luck on me.. especially when I was on Sven Coop Servers.. Lol.

Are you on a slim psp or fat psp?

As far as I know, Slim and Lite.. I never really saw the fat one..

I've been looking at tutorials... I have FW 3.73, there isnt a downgrader for it.. I would much rather stay on this site for downloads and security..

Would I end up formatting my memory stick? Thats not a problem.. but, I would like to try and keep my saved games.. I guess I could export them.

Check here... You'll need a psp capable of running homebrew already to create that tho...

If you don't have one then check this list of people to see if theres anyone local. They convert it for free.

Nop....But you can always downgrade your psp using pandoras battery....I say and this is my opinion that Official Firmwares they really suck....Sry if this is a bad word but i couldnt say nothing else to describe my opinion!

thats what i was looking into, the pandoras battery tutorial looks easy enough.. but i was then told my psp might not even be homebrew-able.. so im back to the confused area..

it helps alot, now there's a slight grasp on everything.

a few notes.

I have a second psp at the version of 3.72.. and mine is at 3.73... f*ck. lol

So i do need someone to downgrade for me? guessing yes.. alright. this requires shipping me psp out to someone or is it possible for me to do it? i could just do what someone tells me.. lol.

i'd rather try to do everything myself.. with help of course.. Since, i am at 3.73 how would anyone get it back to 1.50?

Forums are annoying sometimes, anyone got msn messenger?

Oh I see, so its the battery for the slims that dont make it easy... well I have to hold off on homebrewing then. No money right now and I am attached to my psp. Lol.

Thanks everyone for helping, Staxx I know you prolly got ticked off at me for asking questions. Lol. Godamn me for updating too often. Eventually ill be of the homebrew group..
asddasit, you cleared everything up for me.. thanks again.

Ill be sticking to final fantasy tactics: WotL and tag force 2 for now.. if anyone want custom game saves I may be submitting some soon.

Oh yea.. is there any programs that you can use on the psp without homebrew? like actualy programs made for the psp?

lol, yea np. Once you get enough money you should definitely buy the pandora's battery and magic memory stick. Too bad you got a slim =/. There are fewer and fewer phat psps left on the shelf now.

No, you dont have to ship the psp itself out to anyone.

Go to the store, buy a psp battery (make sure its the official sony battery) and it has to be the battery for the fat psp not slim. Costs maybe $20-$30 for that. You'll also need a 256mb pro duo memory stick which is like $10.

Ship those off to someone from the list i gave you. They'll convert it and send it back to you. A lot less risk involved as your not sending off a $200 unit. Just a couple things that cost at most $40. Once you've got it back you can convert your psps into the machines of the century :D You can also make your money back by downgrading other slims.

Just make sure when you send it off to the person to tell them its for a slim and not for a fat.

yea, i refered him to the Dark Messiah place and told him a little of what he needs to do. Here where i live a old battery would be $40 and the 256 MB sony would be probably $20 lol. Does the battery have to be a sonym and one of the old batteries?
