I haven't touched my PsP in over a year and I recently decided to put a few emulators on it. Im thinking of putting Mame/snes/nes games on it,but Im not sure about the best way to go about it. I researched for a few hours, but people all have differing viewpoints on which versions are better and whatnot. I have a few questions...

1. What do I upgrade/downgrade to, to be able to play emulators effectively?

2. Is a 512 megabyte stick big enough to hold a decent amount of zipped games?

3. Will my PsP still have online capabilities and be able to play PsP games?

I am extremely tired and I am sorry if these answers have been said thousands of times before, but all the time I spent on this tonight has presented no results. Thanks in advance.

P.s also does anyone know if MUGEN works on PsP yet?

1. You even said people have differing viewpoints, but I use 3.52M33-4. Works perfectly fine for me, and you can customize the xmb a lot more then 3.72M33-2. But either one can play emulators.

2. Yea that's big enough to hold a good amount. Bigger is always better though, and you WILL fill it up pretty quick. At least most people do.

3. Yep, it should. Unless something breaks lol. I have heard stories of people having the wlan board dieing and such, but I'm pretty sure most weren't caused by downgrading/upgrading.

And no, I don't think Mugen works yet.

i also suggest 3.52 m33, all custom firmwares will play emulators at the same speed. ISO/CSO and psx games will vary in speed and compatability depending on the custom firmware you choose (not by much tho). Your internet will also work fine.

Since you are at 2.7 you should be able to downgrade fairly easily without a game or anything. You will need to be on custom firmware in order to play emulators unless you choose to stay on 1.50. But then you wouldn't be able to play a lot of psp games that require higher firmwares and stuff. Firmwares 3.03+ can play PS1 games on the psps and higher firmwares have more compatibility to the games. So once you are at 1.50, I suggest you upgrade to at least 3.52 M33-4(but your choice, doesn't matter). in this tutorial. There you are able to play all the emulators and games you want.

Mame/snes/nes games aren't usually too big, maybe from 3 MB to 12 MB for some games, so a 512 MB card is fine. A custom firmware psp is EXACTLY the same as a official firmware one except you have the 1.50 firmware to use along with the official. The 1.50 lets you run cool homebrew apps and emulators and stuff, so there is not a whole lot difference really. And if you want to get back to official firmware from custom, you can through the 'Recovery Menu' that you can access by holding down the 'R' button while you power up your psp.

If you have any other questions, just ask.
