Are you using Despertar? It would need to be prepared a certain way, but that requires a CFW PSP to do it as the readme says. I don't think
this requires an extra PSP.

After 109,761 downloads of that newbi Installer, no one had rated it. I went ahead and gave it an 'Excellent' lol.
Use that Newbi Installer and you can make the files yourself w/o a CFW psp.

I've tried to use that newbie installer too, all it does is completely erase my memory stick, no files, folders, or nothing. I don't think that's what I need. I do, however, have to OFW 1.5 eboot. That is what's supposed to go on the memory stick, right?

I've run the installer on my 512 sandisk and 1gb sony card with absolutely no problems... what mem card are you using?

The only thing i can say is to try and start over... insert the MS into your psp, and reformat it through there, then try running the total newbie installer.

So if I were to use it on my 4GB Sony PRO Duo Stick then it would work also right? I mean as long as it's 256MB and up.

Don't mean to hijack this thread (let me know if I am), but I have questions about mms, so instead of creating a new post and cluttering the board, I decided to post here.
INFO:
psp SLIM silver model:2001
OFW 3.80
Basically I need some clarification on what exactly a mms is. I won't be using the pandora method for creating the pandora's battery, instead I ordered this product from codejunkies/datel that allows me to change my psp SLIM battery to a TOOL battery and back again. (which feels safer)
I can run most of the "installers" through wine (running linux), but I wonder how much of it I really need to. I've been reading a lot, for probably about a week, and most tutorials are outdated or don't apply to what I need to do. It seems, from my reading, that the mms and pandora's battery go hand in hand, and I'm a little cautious as to what exactly i write to my psp.
also, I'd like to create a mms manually, if possible, since I already have (it's shipping) a service mode battery.
from my understanding, in user mode, only the memory stick is writeable, and mounts (in linux) as a storage device.
Now supposing that the service mode allows for upgrading/downgrading, then should I only need the 150 OFW eboot?
Then, while still in service mode, execute the file on my psp, downgrading the system?
EDIT: more importantly, does running in service mode enable access to an additional device location? If so, then it's possible that I would be able to mount this other device in linux. I remember seeing a link with all the various devices and drives within the psp, but I don't recall where I got that information, or how they were able to access it, it would be a great help to me to further my knowledge of the psp hardware if someone might be able to elaborate a bit.
I'm no noob to computers, but I'm somewhat noob when it comes to the psp.

In order to downgrade a psp you NEED a 'Magic Memory Stick' (MMS) and a 'Pandora's Battery/TOOL battery' (same thing, except you can't convert a TOOL battery to be able to use it as a regular battery)
A magic memory stick is a memory stick with teh special files on it which allows you to downgrade a psp or redirect a psp to a different firmware. You can easily revert your psp back to OFW from CFW. CFW has all of the same features as the OFW is represents plus more!
Nope, you will need more files on the memory stick than the 1.50 eboot

. It would be freakin awesome if it was that easy tho!
With CFW, you can access Flash0 and Flash1 which allows you to customize your psp with different sounds and fonts and stuff.

great, I spent about an hour or so trying to mount flash0 (if that is the windows name of the hidden flash drive)
interestingly enough I got some really cool results... but I'm not sure if my interpretation of the data is correct.
it looks like there are actually two devices, but I may be mistaken.
but check this out...
- Code:
user@ubuntu:/proc/scsi/usb-storage$ cat 4
Host scsi4: usb-storage
Vendor: Generic
Product: Mass Storage Device
Serial Number: 920321111113
Protocol: Transparent SCSI
Transport: Bulk
Quirks:
user@ubuntu:/proc/scsi/usb-storage$ cat 6
Host scsi6: usb-storage
Vendor: Sony
Product: "PSP" Type A
Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXXXX
Protocol: 8070i
Transport: Bulk
Quirks:
if scsi 4 is the memcard, I wonder what scsi 6 is?
if I could mount the blasted thing, I'd be able to write to flash0 without pandoras or mms.
EDIT: err, nvm... I did a
to get some additional information, and it looks like scsi4 is the MS reader on my pc and scsi6 is the mounted MS on the psp... meh
