Can I downgrade a new psp to run homebrew?

I have a brand new Black, slim psp running firmware 3.80 and I'm having trouble finding a definitive answer... Is it possible for me to downgrade or get custom firmware or make a pandora to run homebrew? Or would I have to somehow get ahold of another battery or psp already running custom firmware? :?

I've been trying off and on for a few weeks and it still seems confusing, but I'd love to get into homebrew development.
Thanks abunch!

Yes, its very possible concitering I just did it about 10 min agao hahaha! You will need to hard mod you battery by takeing out a pin..Just go to the tuts and look for BrentBizzles tut on Putting cfw on a psp with only 1 psp or something like that.

But that ruins the battery, right? Would softmodding the battery work, then convert it back afterwards? Or I guess you could re-soldier it... :(

I bought this
http://us.codejunkies.com/Products/PSP-Battery-Service-Tool__EF000530.aspx
works like a charm

shipping took a while, and was expensive, but I didn't need to do any hardmods, and it felt safer to me.
good luck

yeah you need a pandora's battery/tool mode battery, and a magic memory stick.
