Hacked PSP at Gamestop?

I was checking out some used Slim PSPs at Gamestop today. I found one in good condition and it had a 2200mah battery in it! I then checked the firmware in the system info and it said 3.90m33-3

Is this PSP already hacked and ready for home brew!? How can I verify for sure?

well i guess that is the only way to see if it is homebrew enables, unless you put a memstick with homebrew in it and run some stuff

Sweet. So on "the surface" you really can't tell a difference on the XMB with CFW? Also, since I am new to homebrew, where are the best places to download homebrew apps such as NES, SNES emulators? Is there a central site?

Then do I just put it on mem stick and "run it" from the XMB?

Thanks for your patience.

I always thought that if the software version said 3.xx m33 meant that it was CFW already.

Yeah, I was just a bit shocked to see a 2200mah and 3.90m33-3 in a used Slim PSP in great condition for $149.99 :) Luckily I have 30 days money back because it seems too good to be true..

So I just downloaded the newly release 3.xx DOOM from this site. Can I just extract that to my mem stick and run it from the games menu?

There is usually a readme that says where to put it. Most homebrew goes in the "game" folder and then its available in the game menu. try it and see if it works.

You can download plenty of homebrew here, and also pspiso has some good homebrew threads.

Great info. Now, where is the best/cheapest place to buy either a 2 gig or 4 gig Memory Stick? Any deals out there?

ALSO: One thing I forgot to ask, if I buy this PSP Slim and it already has 3.90M33-3, can I help friends install CFW or do you have they have to have a Pandora's Battery also?

Best Buy maybe, go to the camera section.

check ebay. I bought two 2GB microSD cards cheap for my and my ex's phone. Got a 4GB sony memory stick pro duo(card fits in psp, came with the pro duo adaptor though) for about $30 shipped. Came from Hong Kong though, took about two weeks to ship. Depends on if you want to wait for it. Here's a link to an ebay search for 4gb cards, you can change the size on the left side to look for different size cards.

Thanks again.

Any ideas on my "installing CFW to other PSPs" question?

From what i've been told, you can't install cfw without a pandora battery(and a memory stick with the files needed for installation). I read a tutorial sometime in the last few days(i've read a LOT of them over the last few days  ), one mentioned being able to create a pandora battery(and revert it back to a normal battery) if you already had custom firmware on a psp. Though, I also heard that it was not possible to do on newer slim models.

Someone else may be able to help you out better with figuring out if yours specifically is capable of doing so, but here is the link for reference.
