Flashing is basically a term that refers to messing with the psp's internal databases like this thing called flash0... not very specific to anything
It has a risk of permanently messing up your psp because you tamper with the things that it uses to operate, and if you make a small mistake it could delete a very important file that you needed in order for the PSP to operate properly. Chance of that happening are pretty much slim to none if you follow directions.

well you never actually permenantly destroy your psp by tampering with the flash. You can always restore your psp to use by using a pandora battery and mms.

Unless you destroy the IDStorage and don't have a back-up.

is that completely irreversable? (without a backup?)

I believe so. If that were to happen you'd need to buy a new motherboard.

If you screw up the ID storage the PSP won't know what to do.
Bricked Motherboard:
Doesn't know what to do on startup.
Cannot read data from Flash0://
Gives up after a certian number of failed attempts.
Motherboard with Destroyed/Corrupted ID Storage:
Cannot find Flash0://
Cannot read from flash0://
Gives up after a certian number of failed attempts.

Why????
That would be difficult.....
I'd just hope you've dumped the nand...
I'm not 100% sure of even how to destroy IDStorage...
Trying to load someone else's Nand dump on your PSP is one way...

hmm here is a question, the nand dump is specific to your psp (regardless of CFW). So if i dump my nand right away, and then upgrade to another fw, do i have to dump the nand again or can i keep the old one?

Its spefic to your MotherBoard, and ONLY your MotherBoard.
