PSP Strange bricking?

A couple of months ago I put custom firmware 3.03oec on a PSP for a friend and everything went fine and worked fully.

However, he was playing on it the other night and turned it off as usual but when he woke in the morning it wouldnt turn back on? The memory stick light on the PSP flashes but nothing from the rest of the PSP.

He's on holiday with it at the moment so I havent been able to try my battery in it to see if it's a dead battery or if the fuse in the charger has gone.

Is it possible that custom firmware did this or does it look like a hardware fault?

Are there any known problems with 3.03oec that occurs later on? I've had it on my PSP for about for ages and never had a problem.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like one of those 1 in million things you hear about on tv a lot. Like the lady that went on a cruise and once she got off, she still felt like she was on the ship. And still to this day, her mind makes her feel like she is rocking around on a boat, and the doctors can't do a darn thing about it.
But yea sounds hardware to me. Just try a different charger/ battery. Was he charging it over the night? Heck I dunno know. One of them things I guess.

i dont think its a battery issue cause it would need power for the memory stick indicator to flash. Maybe the screen/backlight died, maybe the motherboard...hard to really tell. If your good at fixing that stuff you can try disassembling his psp and your psp and try your working parts on his psp or vice versa.

Do you hear any sound? try turning up the volume all the way and completely restarting it by holding the powerswitch up and tell us if you here the boot sound.

You said he has a custom firmware right? Try pressing the brightness button a couple times too. I just thought about that, sometimes when I start a app with the 4th brightness level on, the screen will go black and I have to press the brightness button again.

Thanks guys, I will try all of the things you have said tonight when he gets back from his holiday.

But just to distance myself from any blame incase the PSP is broken, is it possible the PSP flash drive could become corrupted on its own without outside interference?

I told him that custom firmware was very stable so I'm hoping that unless one of your recommendations fix it that it is a hardware fault of some sort.

very strange, got hold of the PSP and it wouldnt turn on although the power light came on and the memory stick light. Checked the brightness button and it had no effect. Also noted that when the PSP was turned on there were no sounds of it booting up or anything.

So I thought I would check the recovery menu because I was obviously going to have to attempt to recover it back to 1.5

The recovery menu came up, I had a quick look and exited it to get my PC and USB cable ready and wouldnt you just know it as I exited the damn thing kicked into life and started up without a problem.

So all better but god knows what happened or why it needed the recovery menu executed to get it working.

Thanks for all your help people, guess it was just one of those unexplainable instances.

[lamen]too bad[/lamen]

Sounds like the psp is bricked, but I've never heard of "just turning the psp off" and having it brick. He must have messed around with something in the flash0.

That's the one way to tell.
