Ok I am a complete noob to this stuff (veteran of xbox modding though).
I know that I need to hold the "R" trigger as a turn the unit on, but it does not work.
- the ac adaptor is in
- the battery is charged
- it is a 1.50 firmware
Is there another way to get into recovery mode.
Thanks

Well then you can use either
www.dark-alex.org or our downloads section to download the 3.40OE-A cf. The instructions on the "manual" way to upgrade is included in the readme, which is really just a 4 step process. I think the winstaller options are more trouble sum then the manual way :p The manual way is so much quicker. But you can use an auto installer, but I dunno know where one is.

@ ace... im sure you already know this but just forgot, but dark-alex's site does not host these files anymore.
anyways...you can find the winstaller here
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/500493 just connect your psp to pc, run the winstaller, then disconnect and run the 3.40 oe-a update from your xmb (located game > memory stick > 3.40 oe-a update)

To place the files onto your memory stick? or to flash the new firmware on your psp?
pc to mem stick should only take a couple mins....new firmware should take 5 mins max. But i have seen reports of there being times when the program flashed extra slow (almost 30 mins). Anyways if your flashing a new firmware just let the program finish otherwise your gauranteed to brick.
What shows on your screen at the moment?

On my screen in purple letters..
>>>>>
You are about to flash your PSP to custom firm 3.40 OE-A.
Press X to start. By doing it, you accept the risk and ALL the responsibilities of what happens
If you don't agree press R button.
Opening and validating dxar file...

sounds odd, the x button and the r trigger should work, (just a thought but if your psp is japanese version then you might have to hit o instead of x)... has the text changed on your screen at all tho?

Also is it true that a 1.5 brick is a real brick. While higher versions can be recovered
