UMD Problem after flashing? (3.40oe)

Video of my problem:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuGroA0IyEA

Shut off times take abnormally long. The clicking sounds come from the laser of the UMD drive.

Is there a file in flash0 that might have been corrupted?

Is there a file in flash0 that even controls UMD Functions at hardboot? (if so which.)

This is very irritating. Help appreciated.

That sounds to me like you got something gunked up in your umd drive...you can check here for a guide on what to do to clean it up... http://www.llamma.com/PSP/repair/PSP_UM ... _Discs.htm

3.40 oe-a has nothing to do with your umd drive, your umd laser reader attaches to the motherboard and doesnt function from the flash chip so modifying the flash0 with a new firmware wouldnt affect it.

Hmm..

Well, thanks for the guide. I'll put it to use.

Hmm. Didn't work, really.

Blah, I didn't want to have to resort to this. I think I'll downgrade my unit and send it in to Sony.

Anyone know the cost of this? Where to send it, ect?

Also, VERY IMPORTANT: Will they upgrade my firmware if I send it in?

(I dont want give it to them so they can make it so I can't play homebrew.)

Not sure if they'll update it, but you could always just mention that you dont want the firmware to be tampered with. I know that when people send bricked units in they update it to the latest.

Does this clicking noise only happen with the umd inside?

I don't own any UMD's.

In the video, there is no UMD inside.

The clicky noise starts only at when booting up. (hard or cold) Which leads me to believe its a flash0 problem... D:.

Try turning UMD autostart off in the system settings menu.

There must be a reason the psp is searching the UMD Drive at startup with no UMD in it.

:(

maby the flicker is stuck down wich would make the psp think there is a UMD in the drive, and start trying to read it? :?

Yeah theres a little black tab that sticks out inside your umd tray...when its pressed down, it starts up the gears and laser to read a umd. Just make sure thats not getting stuck down. Just dont look directly at the laser.

You know, I've thought about that too.

But after examining the flicker, It's not getting stuck. Perhaps its deeper down inside.

BUT, that doesnt make any sense. Because only when I push it down, the "processing" icon comes on, on the psp's screen.

And when you push it down, The laser should activate. It doesnt, from what I can tell.
