Nah, an emulator shouldn't brick your psp. Main things that can brick your psp is:
1. Downgrading/ Upgrading your psp's firmware. (Once you have upgraded fully to a custom firmware, you don't have to worry AS MUCH since you have the recovery menu now)
2. Flashing files to flash0. (Commonly known as editing or changing your theme, or changing the xmb icons)

And that's pretty much it. If it messes with your flash0, it can brick your psp. Such as auto-theme switching apps, they can brick your psp if your not careful. That's all you really have to worry about. Apps such as like IR-Shell or emulators or running ISO's SHOULDN'T brick your psp, unless God wants it to brick then it can happen.

If you are new don't EVER go near your flash0, flash1, flash2, or flash3

And just a note, there's very little existing malicious software that sould brick your PSP

Well that and wait a while after you might hear of like a downgrader released or something. I know in the past people used to make downgraders that would brick your psp, but it's usually something that sounds miraculous and to good to be true.
