What are the advantages? Psh, everything. You can play ISO's (download UMD's to your memory stick) play homebrew games, use homebrew apps, overclock the psp, There's tons of reasons. I mean a psp isn't a psp without custom firmware lol. And if new games come out that require a higher firmware (very unlikely for a while, highest custom firmware is 3.71M33-2, and the highest known official firmware is 3.72, but the new games out now only require like 3.40, so yea). Plenty more reasons then I mentioned, I'll leave the rest for people to list ;)

make one by using a psp with custom firmware or 1.50 on it
or buy one off ebay.
or you could get another motherboard with a different firmware installed on it that you can downgrade, or one with custom firmware on it. Then you can upgrade to 3.72 M33 once you downgrade.
