Author:Harleyg
Version:1
Firmware:1.5
Source:PSP Updates
Download:Here

Harleyg from our forums has released another custom firmware mod for all you firmware flashers out there! Harleyg's custom firmware mod adds a menu and submenus inside recovery mode, so you can replace vshmain.prx, index.dat and recovery.elf via recovery mode with all safety checks, etc. Not satisfied with that, Harleyg has also added the option to change the CPU clock speed, USB mode, and remove custom firmware patch.

Harleyg has also modded another custom firmware so you can now "dual boot" into 2.71 firmware by auto-loading DevHook at startup by holding the left trigger while booting, otherwise you go into 1.50! This ingenious idea should make it much easier to launch higher firmwares or keep in 1.5 with minimal hassle! Although this custom firmware mod has been tested by Harleyg many times, bricking your PSP is always a possibility when writing to the flash memory - please be careful!

Update #1: We have also received word of another Custom Firmware module, this time released by Zettablade from our forums. Here's the details:

Zettablades' Custom firmware mod adds the ability to take screenshots using the note key, an automatic USB function (just plug the USB cable in and it works), and overclocks your PSP's CPU to 333Mhz. There is currently only one bug : If you go into the USB menu under system, the auto usb will stop working until you do a full restart; so don't use it! Remember: When using Zettablades' custom firmware mod there is no need to use the USB connection menu because it has auto-USB connect.

Update #2: Zettablades has released v0.01a, details available in the forum link below.

Personal Notes: OMFG, this is the best thing to ever happen to the psp, it is basically the modchip without the modchip, it allows the boot of the last used devhook Firmware by holding L, plus if you accidentally brick your psp, then you can hold R on bootup to ent the Revovery Menu in which you can access the USB functtion and restore your PSP to it's prime, I RECOMMEND YOU USE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!FOR THE LOVE OF THE PSP USE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cool, but still this is revolutionary, it can unbrick your psp(if you have it installed before u brick)!

It's mostly unbrickable

Only if none of the major PRX's aren't deleted, you can unbrick it if you bricked due to a bad sound/gameboot install or something along those lines. But if you end up somehow deleting a major PRX file, then good luck. So basically it's almost an unbricking/modifying tool, but to some extent. Even so it's a great tool, since you can unbrick your PSP (somewhatly), and boot up Devhook with L button, it's almost like having a dual-boot firmware or having a slimmed down modchip (with no hardware modification or costly effects on your wallet!). Definately his is a must have for every 1.5 user, although there are other mods, this is the best out there so far. I doubt too many of us are that interested in XMB screenshots or auto-USB mode in the XMB quite yet. Great Job Harleyg! Oh, and THANK YOU DARK_ALEX THE PSP COMMUNITY LOVES YOU!!!

well, I'm on teh computer, this also has the ability to run the 1.5 to 1.00 downgrader from recovery mode, which will then alow you reboot in 1.00 and upgrade back to 1.5 so it makes your psps about 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999%

wow man was that realy neccisary?

any way i realy enjoy this the only prob im having with dev hook v.44 is that cant leave the umd in i have to make sure it gose right to ths psp menue or else it trys to boot the game and it crashes other wise downgrading is the best decision ive ever made scince picking "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" to rent instead of "Clif Hanger"

I know it can run the downdater, but if there are some major PRX files missing I'm pretty sure that you can't update your PSP, unless the ones missing don't conflict. But it will "unbrick" your PSP if outwardly modifications, like bootup sound, gameboot, fonts, backgrounds, etc. I'm pretty sure there isn't much out there that will do any damage not related to visual modifications. So I'm almost positive that there isn't a way out of a brick in some instances, but for most modifications, yeah you're pretty safe. I already knew you could downdate from the recovery menu, by the way.
But anyway, this is a great breakthrough for those of us who don't want to get a modchip and risk breaking our PSP's during installation either. This is a great piece of work, and I suggest to all that are compatible with it, to download and use it.
