O.K. I've got an old psp not the TA-082 running firmware 2.60 with lots of home brew and emulators through eloader. I just went and bought Vice City Stories but when I put it in it wants me to upgrade to 2.81. From what I understand 2.81 won't do homebrew but there is a custom 3.03 firmware that does. I only use my psp for homebrew/emulators and Grand theft auto; the only other game I have is L.C.S. How can I play V.C.S. without breaking my ability to run homebrew?

Well you have 2 Choices.
1. Use device hook (a program that lets You emulate other firmwares)
2. Use A custom firmware (like 3.03 OE-A)
By the way What is your Firmware?

firmware 2.60 I didn't upgrade. I haven't played the game yet. I never heard of device hook would that would let me run VCS without upgrading? can I upgrade to 3.03 OE-A from 2.60 or do I have to downgrade first?

get the 2.71 update from somewhere then use dark_alex downgrader to go down to 1.5 then go from 1.5 to 3.03 OE-A then you can play anything even playstation games

yes, upgrade to 2.71 then downgrade to 1.5 then upgrade to 3.03 OE-A and run Vice City, no Dev Hook needed.

I have to upgrade to 2.71 before I downgrade to 1.5? I thought I saw a 2.60 to 1.5 downgrader is it unsafe? does this require files that aren't included (like firmware?)
Edit:
I think I get it now that looks much easier then the 2.60 to 1.5 downgrader I saw and it looks like it uses firmware files that I can download instead of getting it off another psp. plus it doesn't require any .exe files (so far) which is a big plus for me because I can't run them.

Thanks guys I've got it at 3.03oe-a now and I can play vice city:) the eloader I was using on 2.60 could only play 1.0 compatable stuff and I went into photos to get to it; but with this firmware it's like 1.5 and I get to it under games right?

Yes just put the UMD in and it will start up like regular. You now can also play ISO's on your PSP.
