I'm pretty sure that you cannot use them interchangeably.. 
The way it is probably set up is that the guitars are all the same except where it converts the buttons to console-familiar buttons. (A, B, Y, Square, Cross, Circle etc.) To change this, you'd either need a new chip or piece of hardware or some way to flash the converting chip which is probably way more work than it sounds like. The microphone is a universal USB microphone that you can even use on your laptop. (I've done it.
