How to use PS3 Saved Games on Locked games.

Requirements
-------------------------
- Jailbroken PS3 (if not scroll to the bottom)
- PS3 FTP Program - http://ps3.brewology.com/downloads/download.php?id=10342&mcid=4
- Locked Game - http://ps3.brewology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=143&t=18860 other than Little Big Planet (If its not locked just copy the game onto a USB stick like USBDRIVE:\PS3\SAVEDATA\**YOUR GAME SAVE FOLDER (eg BCUS...)** and you are done.

1) In order to ensure that we don't overwrite a game you have worked hard on. Use a game save you are fine with destroying or create a new saved game. This will NOT transfer the trophies.

2) Using the PS3 FTP Program browse to the saved games that you want to overwrite (/dev_hdd0/home/0000????/savedata). From the saved game you downloaded from our awesome Game Saves section copy the PARAM.PFD, USR-DATA, SYSDAT, and CNTDAT files to the new save.

3) Load up the game save on your PS3. If it works... let us know and with which game!

Did you follow these steps to get that game working?

Small question, do i need to do the above steps if i'm copying the save back to the PS3 that made it?

I ask because i upgraded the HDD, the rest of the console is otherwise unchanged

Ok my findings so far, these are most likely known somewhere but atleast make me feel like i haven't wasted time ^_^

The PS3 doesn't recognise any new save folders i created via FTP which i thought was odd, it recognised any copied from old PSP backups of saves just fine and would probably do from an external drive aswell when imported via the XMB, so i performed a test, i imported a save via XMB then nuked the folder via FTP and the console still seemed to be sure the save was there even after a reboot.

This got me digging and i poked the file metadata_db_hdd, inside this file seem to be file paths to all installed games and packages along with lots of trophy information including names of any trophies installed and a total list of the number of trophies ranked by type and it also has a section for listing the number you have unlocked.

Unfortunately notepad++ doesn't read this file all too well but judging from it it seems to be some sort of DB structure and given enough time someone could probably figure it out however to speed people along there is a file called md_schema.scm sitting right next to the file that might prove useful, there are .idx of each file which seem to be backups of the files they are named after.

Sorry for epic slightly off topic post i can post the bits of the file i can read in a new thread if people are interested although i'm a noob so anything i can read anyone with experience should be able to notice easily

All the folder permissions by default are 666 which is what the PS3 seems to set them as, i tried changing them to 777 but no dice, my copy of the file is like 512k so its really tiny, i imagine the more you have installed the bigger it will become, i already uploaded it to send one guy over irc the link is here the console has no PSN details stored on it and the drive was replaced today so there isn't much installed apart from a few small pkg's and a couple of games with 1 set of trophy information from star ocean 4, give it a dig i can upload the ms_schema.scm aswell if thats wanted.

where do you put the ftp server files on the usb stick?

ah...i downloaded one of your save datas and it overwriten my 50 hunter and didnt overwriten the one it should have
i think the save data i used its one dat we need to name our brick Jack

Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition is Locked. I haven't tried this method yet. But if someone can tell me more about the FTP program then I can try.

I got blockbox ftp 1.2 but the only option on the screen is to press x to exit. How do you navigate the files etc?

blackbox 1.2 is the server which runs on the PS3

you need a windows FTP client to FTP to the PS3 server

you can then browse from the PC FTP client through the PS3 disc structure.
