Re: Play another ps3 over ethernet?

If your PS3's aren't hacked, just use the PSN. Right?

I don't have the game but I can identify networking mistakes. How are you setting it up?

Small networking issue is for PS3 <-> PS3 you'll need a crossover cable instead of a patch cable, you can play LAN games over wireless its no different than using a wired connection

So network setups will either need to be

PS3 <-> PS3 using a crossover cable
PS3 -> Switch/router <- PS3 with standard ethernet cables
PS3 -> Wireless AP <- PS3 using the built in wireless

You can spot crossover cables because if you hold the 2 RJ-45 connectors next to each other the cable colour layout won't match, patch cables will match up the colours perfectly :)

Hope that helps

Could you explain how to connect using a switch/router. i bought an ethernet switch, plug two cables in and connect to the ps3s. lights come on however lan party still doesnt seem to work correctly?!

how would wireless work, but as i said earlier i have no internet connection. the one i am using to reply to this is via a dongle and signal strength is poor.

a step by step guide if possible would be greatly appreciated.

Right if its just a plain switch then the reason the LAN isn't working is because the PS3 by default tries to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server, in order to get the PS3's to see each other you'll need to change it over to a static IP as there is no DHCP server present with your setup, this is actually nice and easy to setup :)

Right firstly you'll need to go to the internet settings section on the PS3 settings, now you need to select custom then wired, now you'll get to a part that asks if you want to set the PS3's IP manually or via DHCP, select the manual option then you need to set the first PS3 to 192.168.0.1 and the subnet to 255.255.255.0, when it asks for DNS settings just type in 192.168.0.1, after this it should ask you a few more questions about MTU and proxy connections just leave those all at the default options and it should save them and attempt to perform an internet connection test, now the internet portion of this test is going to fail and thats to be expected as you don't have an internet connection :)

The second PS3 will be setup the same way except for its IP address you will enter 192.168.0.2 leaving all the other details the same, again the end test will fail but thats fine, both PS3's should hopefully now be able to see each other in games that are LAN enabled, if you have any problems then post back and i'll try to help :)
