Gary Gygax, 1938-2008, Forever Rolling In His Grave

Alright, since the site was down I wasn't able to post this.

Gary Gygax died March 4th 2008, he will be missed greatly.

This thread (regardless of the title) is not for cracking jokes, if you wanna do that, go make another thread, this is strictly for discussion of a legend that is no longer with us.

Feel free to post your thoughts on Gary here.

I remember when I was about 8, my first time playing D&D, I remember all the people around me were possibly the nicest people I had ever seen. To me, Gygax and his partner that had created a truly great community, people who were connected through a tabletop game. D&D had shown me a truly beautiful fictional world, for the first time, gaming was more thana 1 player thing. I stopped playing D&D at 11 years old, but Gary's game provided me not only a community, but inspiration. He inspired me to write with a more elegant style, to live a life of understanding, and also to look past the cover and really read the book.

Gary was easily in my top 5 people who changed the world, and showed people that geeks can be cool too.

Vary sad to see him go. I always thought he was some 25 year old who made an amazing game (D&D) but I was wrong and just wow I find out he is what 70+, for the whole gaming industry he was like a god and will be missed dearly. Like Supa said he showed that geeks are / can be cool. Even when you are older.

You know this guy is pretty cool. I find it pretty funny that complete strangers playing the same game can be so nice. I dunno know, maybe it's me, but little communities like that do have real nice people in them. But that stood out to me, dunno know why. Since some videogames do have awful communities (cough *halo* cough, seems everyone is addicted to screaming out to the top of their lungs some gay phrase that's supposed to be a insult, when really they just insulted themselves). But yea my 2 cents.

It's not the religion that causes wars, it's the men who use religion as a means to control people that do.

Oh yea I heard about that, i didn't know what his name was though. Ah yea ace its good to hear some gaming community had nice people in them. Most of them now are a bunch of idiots, I see that it is a whole lot more acceptable to be a geek for video games now than how it used to be. I guess it just used to be all the nice geeks, now there are a bunch of gay a** jocks or something lol.
