Why are you even mentioning 3G and 2G? Technically that terminology refers to cellular technology which has nothing to do with the ipod touch.

The wireless issue is apparently a mac bug, but mostly crops up from people jailbreaking with blackra1n. Some people have been able to fix the issue by going into settings and resetting the wifi. Try going into your setting, forgetting the network, flip wifi on and off. Another thing to try is to completely restore the phone and start fresh. Unfortunately there isn't a cut and dry method to fix the issue, and there's a chance you may be SOL...

If you do get it working, there's lots of stuff to do. Since you have an ipod and not an iphone anything data related is obviously going to be restricted to wifi only.

If you want to test appstore apps out for free, check out appulous and hackulous. hackulous will give you the directions you need. xsellize is another great site. Surenix is over there.

Look into SSH to connect to the phone. WinSCP is a good program to connect to it. Once jailbroken you'll need to direct connect to mess with the file system.

There are tons of ways to customize your phone. Winterboard is the standard but I don't use it since it uses memory. You having a newer gen iPod you shouldn't have any issues with it. There are some other applications that can drastically change the layout of your springboard. Iconoclasm is one. Categories will allow you to use folders. I use Stack, great app.

There are a few emulators for the iphone, but personally i don't like the controls. There is a decent RPG called Song Summoners.

A lot more can be had with it if you do get it jailbroken. Oh, and stay away from Icy... stick with Cydia!

Well I've jailbroken it but apparently it's only tethered so if I restart it I have to hook it up to the PC and run blackrain again to make it work right again. That's not so bad I guess. I used Cydia but I didn't find apps from the app store there. You say use hackulous? Where do I get that? - in Cydia? Gotta head to work.

from my understanding, you can download snes4iphone or psx4iphone or nes4iphone or any of those emulators through cydia. then you add sources in cydia (by going to manage - add sources) and that's where you get roms from. in order to download apps from the app store, i believe you add the source hackulous and from there download installous and use that app to download them. it might seem complicated, but it's fairly simple and you'll get the hang of it in no time.

I said about 3G and 2G because there is a big difference in getting the 2G ipod touch jailbroken and the 3G ipod touch jailbroken. 2G and 3G have alot to do with the ipod touch and i felt like that was a "Slap" to the face.
their is different technology in the 2G and 3G ipod touch, so the 3G is harder to untether looking at your post you should know there is. ever site there is about ipod refers to 2G/3G. Same with Iphone, please honestly Brent don't "Slap" sortof im abit anoyed at your post.

no, although it seems you have to pay for snes4iphone, you can download it from a different source to your computer and ssh it to your ipod touch and then it will be free.. the only reason you have to play is because someone wanted to make money off it, but there are ways of going around it.

hackulous, appulous, and xsellize are websites...

of course you can't get appstore apps through cydia. if you could, apple would have had it shut down long ago. But there are tons of useful apps and utilities on cydia. To get SSH working you need openSSH from cydia. you can get winterboard from there.

Do some research and find out what's out there... take some time to browse cydia apps to find out what some do.

I've been jailbroken and making iPhones for quite sometime...(sorry if this thread is kinda old...ive been browsing your site :) )
Basically, yes you can get App Store Apps for free through Cydia...I won't tell you how, but yes it is possible...If some of the above posts would have been at an iPhone forum the users would have been banned but oo well.....
You should jailbreak because there are very cool things you can do with themes and add-ons....the iPod Touch is amazing....but my opinion (and the opinion of many others) is that developing for the iPhone is a major pain, and the devs get very little money, and it's rude to cheat them outta that....if you do find a tutorial somewhere on the web on how to do this, you will notice that while you are in the process, a pop-up from Cydia will come up saying the source is un-safe, and that they discourage you from using it........i just started trying to make iPhone apps and it is very time consuming.....well worth 99 cents....

Actually they use that to refer to what generation they are, as in 2nd Generation and such. I thought it was awkward at first and was hard to get what people were meaning when they used "2g" or "3g" to describe the iPods but apparently that's how Apple themselves mentions them if comparing them.

@ wannabprogramma ~ It's ok to tell me how to get iPod store apps through Cydia. We aren't a strict iPhone/ iPod forum so we don't ban or scorn people for showing how to unlock the full potential of their devices. That's what we're all about! ;) You are, however, entitled to not mention how to do it if you don't agree with it personally. If you were worried of a moderator or administrator jumping on your back though, we won't.

Yea...it's more of a personal thing...I used to get cracked apps myself, but after I started programing I kinda just thought that the people who made the apps deserved to get paid....but there's no point in not telling others...it's easily accessible knowledge...though I don't do it anymore, all you would have to do is add hackulous's source and install installous app....or appulous i hear is the new one??

Well, what do you guys mean by "sources"? You referring to adding sources in Cydia for downloadable packages, right?

in Cydia, click the Manage tab, and then click Sources....you will see all the sources from which your themes are being displayed.....modmyi, bigboss, zottd &macCiti, etc.
You can click edit/add to add custom sources...like iAcess or Sn0wLeopard, or Hackulous....they are sources which display downloadable packages, correct

Check. You dont have to go through his system and all..just take a look at it and look on the back. Where it says the copyright and all if its 2 lines its a 3rd Gen. If 3-4 its a 2nd Gen. If it has no volume keys its a 1st gen.

3rd gens work, kernel checks do work on them.
However its only tethered.

Tbh it being tethered doesn't have any significance or devaluation to me. I would ideally like an untethered iPod but would only shut it down about as frequently as I do now anyways - when I install something that needs to shutdown/ restart to finish installing. That is rare though now that I've got most of the noobie stuff out of the way.
