Windows 7

Errr, I downloaded the ISO of Windows 7 burned it to a disk blah blah. (I took my laptops hard drive out, just because I didn't want to mess it up, because I was planning on putting it on to my external hard drive) well I get to the part where you want to pick which drive you want windows 7 to go I click my external hard drive (the only one there) put it says I can't because it can't be installed onto a USB device (i.g external hard drive) what kind of crap is this? I don't want to mess up my computer and try to play it safe and this errr, any way around this?

Bah, I haven't attempted to install it yet, since I just started the download before I left for school this morning and just got on my computer now, burnt it to a disc, and was just about to whip out the external hard drive till I read your post :(

Urg, Sucks eh. Well I decided I was just going to partition my laptop drive, until I see I can only get it to 13GB for one partition which just sucks so I am defragging to see if I can make any more room. This is really annoying, and if anything else goes wrong I will not be putting it on to my computer because this is just crap. Seems like Microsoft can't do anything right even if they want to!

Partition your HDD... It should have a partitioner in the actual install.

He meant he was splitting the partitions diehard, as far as I know I wouldn't trust a microsoft installer to split any partition on my hard drives >.>
I currently have XP and Vista installed so I will prolly split the partition on my XP HD and tri-boot if I can even pull that off with Windows 7. I haven't tried installing it to a eSata drive, not sure if that would be much different. That and my teacher at school ran out of 40gb drives so I can mooch a extra drive off him. Pew Pew.

Nice, but remember. Windows 7 has an XP mode so you don't need XP. (for a year a least)

Doesn't Vista have the ability to load anything XP could?
Right click => Properties => Run As: == Windows XP Service Pack 3

True, but this is a real xp, like how in Mac you can have vista, now you can have vista have xp. But anyways anybody know how to solve my problem?

Also, all I can get from my computer is a 10GB partition, do you think it will work on that? It says that the 32 bit version needs 16GB?

And look worse...

Bottom-line, if you have a store-bought PC from more than 4 years ago, XP might be ok, but if you have an even somewhat more optimized computer, you should be taking advantage of a good operating system. Not XP.

Well the main reason I would use XP is just to play WoW to minimize any lag I can when new patches come out. Usually when the patches come out there is more lag in raids then usual so I just flip over to XP for a little bit to reduce any lag that I can. But for the most part I just use Vista, it's not like XP is a necessity or something. But yea, I'm just going to format it and stick Windows 7 on it, since it doesn't seem to like external drives very well.

Are you saying Vista doesn't like external drives? If so, and if you're talking about hard drives externally, my Vista x64 bit Ultimate has always done goofy things with my EHDD. Normally, my computer would boot into Vista at about 15-20 seconds. But if I have the external hooked up it takes about a minute and 10 seconds.

If it is plugged in after the computer has booted Vista, the autoplay is late to catch the drive by the same amount of time. Odd....

I have a Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.6 GHz, 3 GB Dominator Ram, and a Sapphire radeon 4850. So I have vista, and yes, it does work fine, but XP is still slightly faster...

Well I was referring to Windows 7, but yes Vista does act goofy at times with ehdd's as well. I've never really looked into the problem before but I have noticed terrible boot times before on other peoples computers as well.

Directx10 ftw!
