I only say those things because when anybody who says, "id pick your words carefully when it come to religion DPM, me being a christian and all.", is offending me to begin with, especially someone who is Christian. I don't care to "choose carefully" in order to proudly denounce "my religion", or lack thereof, simply because someone else doesn't think the same way that I do. I don't care about offending you regarding what I assume is the truth to what you think is the truth. You want to know why? Because at the end of the day, if you come and tell me that you are proud to be a Christian because you believe in the wisdom and the truth of the biblical literature - I won't be offended by it, and just the same, Christians who are offended by such a statement can honestly just GTFO and stay out of my business regarding my lack of Christian faith and not address me or others like me using terminology like this:

airplanes18 wrote:alas, will you learn? will you heed warning? will you CARE?

... because if you respond to me believing that I don't care about faith or biblical literature (and literature far preceeding) a great deal already than you are simply a simple-minded Christian who clearly believes that someone who denominates something as their religious values in the spectrum of Atheistic beliefs that they are basing those beliefs off of blind faith, just as a Christian would. If I were the kind of person to be that obnoxiously rude and inconsiderate of others, like I've been treated thus far, one may assume why I'd choose the words I've chosen so far, and if you haven't, then I encourage you to read into Egyptian, Roman, and Greek religious literature to understand how much of your blind faith is directly plagiarized from common religion predating "Jesus Christ" or perhaps research about how modern Christianity was constructed politically by a man named Constantine in order to keep people in line.

But... wouldn't want to upset the Christians. Better "choose my words carefully" before I say something that offends them... like encouraging them to read a different book about religion rather than the one that they were taught to believe by someone else who based their beliefs off of a book that THEY primarily developed their belief structure by simply because it's the tradition in your family.

Bottom line, you should develop your faith based on how it can make you a better person, no matter what your faith is, instead of falling back on it because it's what you've known your whole life. You should be in a position in which you can critically identify your surroundings. If you've come to the conclusion that Jesus Christ is your savior and you follow his word in the Bible, that's great if it helps you become a better person, but don't let your empirical beliefs get in the way of you being kind towards other faiths because in my opinion, being dead means you feel the exact same way you felt as when you weren't yet born and there is no afterlife, which is scary, but it's what I've come to terms with after being honest with myself and constructing years upon years of research dedicated into this subject matter, so I have already chosen and expressed my right to "choose my words carefully".

That is all. Carry on.

Yeah.. when you say stuff like

"id pick your words carefully when it come to religion DPM, me being a christian and all."
and
"alas, will you learn? will you heed warning? will you CARE?"

you are just setting yourself up for a debate.

Just represent your faith and be a good Christian rather than threatening others.

Yes, you fully understand where my post was coming from. This kind of stuff is only fuel on the fire...

If I put a picture of a manger in my signature or a video reference to a holy sermon shouldn't I have the right to have that there regardless of who disagrees or who it offends because it is how I feel religiously? I would assume that it wouldn't ever be taken "offensive" to see, and so it becomes deragotory and offensive towards Atheists when you even have the audacity to suggest that somebody remove a reference towards their feelings about religion for the sake of you not being to cope with the reality that other people do not believe the same as you.

If that is the way you go about practicing Christianity, I will begin by informing you that you are not practicing your religion to the standards of the literature you affiliate your belief structure and adhere to and as such, you shouldn't have any more authority than anyone else to have a say in who gets judged for whatever content they have in their signature regarding religious values. Que's signature is not offensive. Your attitude towards it, however, is downright appalling.

It is easy to say I'm this or that but it is another thing all together to follow through on those words.

The bible is a thick book and deserves several reads to understand especially if you are going to claim to live by it's teachings. Having a foundation in history, ancient mysticism such as astrology and some knowledge in Greek and Latin helps too.

No one changes or lives their life according to the writings of J.K Rowling or Tolkien for example.

Reading the book over and over again to get a good understanding goes for any focus not just religion.
The programmers you will one day be looking to hire are the ones reading the tech news sites right now.

And they will remember...

If you find random things that you didn't know had existance, well, then you'd be expanding you knowledge, too.
And if you think it's silly, then I guess StumbleUpon should be burned.

I'm southern baptist. I don't get offended just by other peoples beliefs though, just when so many people accuse us of being hypocrites and then say something so obviously hypocritical, it's just sad. But whatever, I'm not going to fuel the fire, it just shows what kind of person you are when you belittle people and what they base their life on.

One thing that does offend me though is when I can't say Merry Christmas to customers because someone of another religion is offended, or can't buy a "Christmas Tree". It's ridiculous how many things people say that they are offended by, just to be difficult. Like at our school, in our digital video production class we did a "African" segment for the little 10 minute show we broadcast every week. I go to a 95% black school, but the two students who did the segment are both what I would actually consider African-American because they were born in Africa. The segment was basically a comedic 3 minute video of them first entering our school, and being surprised by stuff like the elevator. They never ever said the word African though in the segment, but of course someone emailed the schools principal threatening him because they were "offended" by a comedic segment that never even said the word African at all. To any black or African-American members, would that offend you?

Anyways, that was my rant for the month :p Stop arguing, start discussing.
