I'm personally not a big fan of Ipod Touches, they're flashy and are pretty interesting, but i wouldn't ever find use for one. I would use the PSP as a PMP, if it was much smaller, and had better storage options... I have a Creative Zen Vision, since 2005 actually and i still love it for watching Videos and listening to music. I like Zunes too, although there are a few qualities of them that i dont really like.

it's a neat little gadget, and fun to play with... but recently i've found that my ipod "classic" or video is too big for me. I picked up an ipod shuffle to take snowboarding, and I love it. Whenever I go on longer trips I will of course bring my video, but for my daily bike or train ride to work the shuffle is perfect. The smaller the better.

Granted I'm in Japan, so I make a lot of small trips back and forth.

Like i said...My ipod Classic is too big for me as well. I thought i could use it as a HDD but i dont need to do that.

So im stuck with 80 GBs, 1.5 GBs of music on it, and like 30 MBs of pictures. I think i dont need that much. So a 8gb (or heck, if the prices come down with the newly released Touch) or 16gb Touch sounds GREAT to me.

No, the ipod touch is "not much more" than an mp3 player. You can buy a f**king laptop for less than you can buy an ipod touch, so if internet, email, and playing media files in a portable fashion is what you're looking for, it would be stupid to get the ipod touch with a smaller screen and less storage place for your media, no matter if it's technically more "portable" or not, it's still a terrible purchase when faced with more powerful and capable alternatives.

It plays some heavily weak third party applications - much less than what the PSP is capable of, and the PSP and offers the same amount of storage space as the PSP as well. You can get a 16gb memory stick pro duo for around $150.00 if you really wanted, or wait a few months while prices drop considerably.

Getting an ipod touch for music, internet, and weak third-party programs is like getting a new house just for a backyard and storage shed. It's a completely worthless investment, especially when there are better alternatives already on the table.

The ipod touch is a neat device. It does some pretty neat things. I've used one and enjoyed it. But when don't have a job, and you're saying that the ipod touch is a "good buy", I encourage you to get into the workforce and recognize where a dollar is best spent.

Give me 3 alternatives. Priced under $259. I want all 3 of them to be as portable as the touch. All 3 of them to tell me when i have a new email, give me the internet, SMS (yes, when its jailbroken), Maps, Music, Videos, AIM.

Give me three better alternatives and il decide then.

Portability is an opinion-based aspect of design, not a statistic, but what about an ASUS Eee PC or EVEREX Cloudbook?

You could build a whitebox desktop computer for $259.

You can use the PSP for email, internet, SMS, Maps, Videos, and AIM.

EDIT - seems ASUS is corrupt and actually raised the prices on the Eee PC line. That's a shame, but the Cloudbook should be $200 or similar. Offers Linux on it standard.

But anyways, I have to ask. Why do you want to spend $260 for a 16gb mp3 player? You have a PSP capable of EVERYTHING that the Ipod Touch can do. Instead, why not get a 30gb Zune with FM Radio for $$60 shipped and buy cords for it? ($5 with free shipping on ebay as well). The battery in the 30gb Zune is the same one that the Iphone uses, so you know that battery longevity is going to be great, and between the PSP and Zune 30gb, you've hit all of the aspects of the Ipod touch except for the touch screen, which would break within a year most likely anyways. My Zune has fallen out of a tree some 3-4 stories high and it doesn't even have a scratch on it - talk about a well-built device... something the Apple ipod line has NEVER been known for. To this day, I only know of ONE person that has had an ipod for over a year without it breaking.

If you're so rushed to spend that much money on something so frivolous that you don't even need at all, you better not be using mommy and daddy's money to do so.

Its not there money...boy im working my butt off this summer.

1. PSP web browser= load of crap. I cant begin to say how horrible this thing is on cache problems and such. AIM on a psp would be horrible (yea, i tried it). Mail is hard to load.
2. A laptop wont git in my pocket. Im trying to move away from carrying everything with me when im at a store.

Like i said, i only have 1.5 GBs of music. 16 GBs or even 8GBs is perfect for me. I said portability, so why would u say a desktop?

DONT GET THE 3G iPHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!
It may seem cheper but DONT get it. You cant Jailbreak it yet,
It may be cheaper but the moment you buy it you HAVE to sign for a contract
and it is just a hassle, especially if you want to Jailbreak it.

Unless you want to use if regularly without Jailbreaking it, go ahead.

I read over on yahoo! that they dont expect a price drop on the touch. Besides, at my local best buy i can i can buy a Touch for $289 and then get a $45 dollar card i might be able to "sell" to mom. Dang i want a touch.

Wait untill it comes out and the ipod devs will jailbreak it.

And apple should price drop the itouch otherwise they will drop in sales.

You don't need email and instant messaging on the go. You simply DON'T need it. If you only have 1.5gb's of music, 16 or 8 sounds like overkill. I've seen 2gb mp3 players with FM tuners built in for $40 + $30 rebate on Tiger Direct.

Your music problem can be solved easily with devices that are much MORE portable than the ipod touch, especially if you want space for 1.5gb with a little cushion. Also, when are you going to honestly sit down and use the full function of a web browser on a small device with such a tiny screen? Also, AIM on the psp is NOT horrible, and email is NOT hard to load.

If you're trying not to carry "everything with you when you're at the store", then why would you want to take the time to check your email at the store or send instant messages at the store?!?

You're welcome to waste your money for a touch screen and a little bit more capable web browser, but you're completely wasting your money.

I know that the browser is slightly better, I made sure to note that. Is a portable browser worth $260?!? - hell no it isn't. On top of that, it still uses wifi, which the PSP uses, so the portability only meets the same roadblocks that the PSP meets as far as WHERE YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE THE FEATURES.

In most cases, that would mean using it at home on a wireless network, in which case, why wouldn't you boot up the home computer's web browser that is truly fully loaded?

You don't have to pay a monthly bill or anything to have wifi right, it the same as the psp?
Can you pay extra to have the internet anywhere?

I have used the iPhone's internet it is better than the psp's cuz you don't get that memory error. Still, I would rather not use a little portable to get on the internet. Although you can watch youtube on the touch, which can keep you occupied.
I thought about getting a touch but its waaay too expensive. I already have a mp3 player and my psp.

Yea, u dont pay a monthly fee for the wifi on the Touch.

Since it is wifi, it cant go EVERYWHERE.....but in the next coming years i expect the US to be a lot like the Japan and have wifi mostly everywhere.
