Well you can't really predict how something like this will affect the forum. I mean, there just isn't any way to say "it will work" or "it won't work" just by guessing, I think we will have to do a quick trial run to really say for certain how this would affect the forums. Unless someone knows something I don't.

This is related to your saved cookies on your computer, that's why. I'll explain.

Say you use "computer 1" and "computer 2" regularly. You login to computer 1 first and see red posts which means they are new. So you post here and there and log off. Well, if you logged into the brew with "computer 2" at some point before you'd logged into computer 1, then it's possible that it is still showing "red posts" even though you've switched computers because of the LAST SESSION you had on "computer 2" before you'd ever been on "computer 1" again.

In other words, since the cookies aren't shared between computers, one computer thinks you logged in at a different time and therefor, will show different posts as new or not. If you'd posted in some threads on computer 1, but switched to computer 2, it's entirely possible that those same posts that you just saw on computer 1 are red for "new" - even though they "aren't" new - they're just new to the second computer because it doesn't share cookies.

It is possible to make two computers share cookies though.

I meant like il get on Computer 1 and and read them all and get on computer 2 and they will all show they have been read. Maybe they already share cookies.

Yes it seems that they may be shared on your network. Perhaps that means other people can see all of the massive amounts of porn you download too!! ;)

As for "how" to enable shared cookies between two computers, I don't remember exactly how because that's not how I've ever decided to setup my networks - and networking is a weaker aspect of my vast computer knowledge. In any sense, I am thinking it is a setting in either your network and sharing center (on the administrative computer, not the slave), or the modem/ router that you are using that can enable shared cookies on the network.

You bring up a good point. If/ when we do a trial run of the private forum, I'll keep this in mind.

Well, I thought the help section would be the only section people would be interested in joining for..
If they had to sign up to talk to socialize, it'll have the same results as what we're experiencing right now.

If you guys put some google analytics on the site you would probably see that those people come back. They may not post on the forum but at least they are coming back and getting what this site is for. Its a website first. Forum second. Plus I haven't seen any spam on this forum in a long time. Only place it happens is the front news page thing. I just don't think its a good idea. Plus with the new psp coming out, we are probably going to be getting lots of new people.

actually, MORE people join, since they need to in order to see the content.
