I was extremely crushed when I saw that.
Just awful.

Yea :( I knew he was dead instantly, he actually wasn't but it was just to sever. What do you expect almost flying into a poll at 150Km/h :( What I think is the sad part is he has trained his whole life for this, then BAM dead before the Olympics even started.

Ouch!

how did he crash into a poll (pole?) ?

Heh. Just got back from the opening ceremony.
I was a bit disappointed (I was outside) that I had to wait SOO long to see the final torch bearer come out.
But I was SOOOO happy too see "The Great One"!!!!!!

Apparently there was a problem with the in-door torch lighting, not sure what happened lol but it was amazing outside.

Best feeling, once in a life time chance. That was awesome.

That's so unfortunate for the Georgian who died. I suppose the easiest way to take the accident is that he died doing what he loved and trained to do. He was living his dream and he died living his dream. It also appears that his death was fast. I guess he was technically "alive" after hitting the pole, however, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have been in any state of actual awareness at the time. In a way, he went quick and painless, a better death than most, but I'm sure that's no consolation to the friends, family, and loved ones left behind.

Again folks, the link that was given for the video does not show any blood or anything but it doesn't edit anything out. You see a young man traveling at a very fast speed doing the luge who has an accident, goes off course, and slams extremely hard into a pole causing his death. The link won't be removed because it is relevant and doesn't violate any rules here, however, viewer discretion is still advised.

Yes. All my local news stations are talking about it nonstop.
In the opening ceremony, when the Georgians came out, everyone stood up from their seats to give them a
good leap of faith. Was very moving.

Well I guess if I had to go out at a early age then I would want to be doing something I loved.

On a (somewhat) lighter note though, I think it's ironic that in the US the south is receiving snow storm after snow storm while Vancouver is just receiving rain and warm temperatures compared to usual. Last time I checked the closer you get to the equator the warmer it gets, not colder O.o

We usually get rain a ton at this time of year, but at mountains like Cyprus and Whistler village,
they are saying this is perfect weather for the Olympics.

So they held the winter olympics somewhere that gets rain instead of snow regularly?

I checked friday night and we had about 3 inches of snow, of course by saturday afternoon it was all gone.

Just from the leftover stuff that you had we ended up getting almost 2 feet within a day and a half and most of it is STILL on the ground. Shoulda had the winter Olympics in my backyard.
