My computer.

Ok i am building my own computer and i so far have my case and my motherboard. My motherboard is a gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 with AM2+ socket and i was woundering for a pure gameing style machine if a AMD athlon 64x2 6000+ cpu would work well and i intend to put in a GeForce 8800gt graphics card aswell so any opninions about this cpu or any suggestions for a better one?

Why did you choose AMD? They are cheaper but they also lag Intel in performance. Why not get a low end Intel CPU and overclock it?

In computers you get what you pay for. Also there are too many changes in computers right now to buy in unless you plan on upgrading again in the next 12 months.

im making this computer so i can upgarde it over time lol thats the whole reason i am making it and i chose amd because all iv ever used is amd and my friends intel duel core (unsure exactly what it is) overheated and died on him wen he overclocked and iv never had any trouble overclocking my AMD (was proberly just his choice of cooling tho).

Well you seem to know what you are doing I am not sure what you need help with.

In general when choosing a system get the most you can afford.

BTW I read somewhere that the 8800 GT does not support DX10.1 I do not know if that can be fixed with an update or not or how crucial that is but it is something to look into.

There are too many changes too fast in computers nowadays. I am waiting until things slow down.

AMD is pretty good, but i like the ATI Radeons better.

I do not like ATI at all.

I think that they make a decent TV card but that is about it. I have owned several ATI cards and have given up on them due to having to wait 3 months for them to come out with drivers so that I could run whatever computer game was out.

My Wii is powered by ATI and I even had to ship that back to get the video fixed last year.

I was not impressed with the first generation Gforce but they have come a long way since.

I am sticking with Nvidia until something better comes along.

Well the reason it died is because he overclocked it. Overclocking a computer is not to smart yea its great but kills everything so fast. Also he probably didn't have enough fans. Like my computer isn't even overclocked and I have five fans and it over heats.

Anyways I would go with Intell and Nvidia.

after doing a bit more research around lol i am now torn between saving money and going for the 6000+ duel core or getting a 9500+ quad core thats only like another 100 NZd more then the duel core and quite a bit better. Any suggestions on whether its just a waste and aint rly needed?

I still think its to much. Before I even go close to a quad core they have to be like half as much. Also yes they are great and if you have the money sure but for me I would say no.

I read an article in Maximum PC (February) that states that AMDs best CPU this year is slower than Intel's equivalent CPU from last year.
