Transfer recordings from direct TV box

Has anyone tried, or know a way to transfer recorded programs from my Direct TV box to a computer as a file?

That would be awesome, what else would the USB port be for? Maybe for some kind of cable connection, but it would be epic to put recordings on a usb drive.

I'm sure the USB port is for firmware updates of the box or repairs. Probably useless to the end user.

As far as I know there's no open, built in way to transfer recordings off of the box. This type of function is something that can't be officially supported since there are copyright and licensing issues at hand.

Maybe someone's found a way to hack the box. I would recommend googling around, but if you can't find anything it's probably because it's not feasible/worth it.

I hear what you're saying brent, but i'm wondering if Copyright issues aren't an issue because after all, there is Tivo-to go, which is essentially the transferring of recordings as files onto a PC. I do have a straight up dvd analog recording thing, its HUGE and its annoying but it can do what i'm talking about
