Awwww man... you just brought back some of my finest memories!
I was one of the morons that bought a factory 1.50 firmware PSP for $264.99 (grand total) and before I learned about homembrew, had "updated" the PSP to 1.52, thus locking myself out of homebrew for a few months before being saved by the GTA Liberty City Stories exploit.
One of my finest memories of "homebrew history" is similar to this. Since GTALCS was my favorite game at the time, I remember downgrading to 1.50 to play normal homebrew on my 32mb card, like NES and stuff, and then upgrading the firmware to 2.00 just to play GTALCS because they didn't figure out how to make a loader for so long or get homebrew rockin' on 2.00.
I downgraded and upgraded about 3 times a day.
