Yea it is a country club for old white men that steal money without a gun.

2 meals a day isn't going to kill anyone. Vietnam POWs got by on one cup of rice a day!

Perhaps if Prison was a bit more unpleasant then people would think twice about committing crimes. I have even heard of some that get locked up on purpose so that they can be taken care of.

I suspect we have some future criminals in the forum...

People in concentration camps got only a piece of bread a day.
Is that what we should give people?
Don't use that logic on me.

Prison is a failed system, 85% of those released are sent back before 6 months of leaving.

The .... Argh... what's the word?
The 'come back' rate is sooo high because it's not a punishment at all!
They're getting a free ride in prison.

Yes, things like free cable television should be taken away but don't turn it into a concentration camp and certainly don't harm them to where they can never recover. Prison is a punishment AKA a recovery! Let them recover from what they've done.

Exactly, they only need necessities and they should not receive luxuries.

Why are we arguing about this? I said 2 meals! That is more than our POWs got and more generous than Auschwitz OR Andersonville since you want to start bringing up concentration camps.

Lengthy prison sentences are supposed to be deterrents. I am not arguing whether or not the system works. I am stating that prisoners have it better than they should.

In some cases it is like summer camp for adults. Where is the lesson in that? Prison should be prison none of this white collar crap that is segregation. Martha Stewart should have been cell mates with Lil Kim!

Ok What I Think What Should Happen Is...

If You Are in Jail And Need Speacial Meds That will keep them alive than the prisons should go after the family members.

Agreed.

All I am saying is that we spend too much money on the welfare of criminals instead of the welfare of our citizens. It almost seems like criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens.

And what if there is no family members?

And I was saying just because it's enough to survive doesn't mean it's enough for prisoners.

I dont know what prisons you guys are talking about, but we went to one for a school field trip.
Th inmates got only 7 hours of television a week, that means 1 hours a day.
They had to stay in cells for 20 hours, 20 F***ING HOURS IN A 7 BY 7 ROOM!
your telling me thats not good punishment? Stuff like that makes criminals.

I know if i went to jail and had to look at a f***ing white wall for 20 hours i would go crazy and as soon as i got out i would kill someone.
Whats the point of living when youve spend 5 years in jail, you have no home, no money, no job, THERE IS NOTHING! There is only a life of crime.

Prison has never worked, and it will never work!

I'm 100% sure that any of you would go crazy and the minute you came out you would do some crazy s***

LOL!!

I agree.

Still I don't like the thought that a protion of our taxes goes to maintaining the welfare of criminals and Farq reminded me of something else.

Once a person does time that should be it. After they complete their sentence they should be allowed back into society but instead we treat ex cons like lepers and basically put them in a position where they have no choice but to commit crime to survive. A criminal record should not be public. Only a judge should be allowed to review a criminal record. That way if a person wants to become a productive citizen they can.
