HDMI and Optical Cable

Okay so I am hearing a lot of great things from Monoprice and I am thinking about buying a HDMI cable from there and an Optical sound cable from there, what is the best HDMI cable and the best Optical cable to get there? I want it to make my PS3 look and sound the best!

Usually, the thicker the better.
But, for the cables to be called HDMI, they all have to meat a certain qualification for picture. So, all the picture is the same. I don't know about sound, though.

Despite all the information out there about cables I don't think it makes a difference about the thickness of the cable when it comes to HDMI or optical

Ultimately these cables transmit one of two states, on or off. The signal is there or it isn't, that simple.

Thickness doesn't really matter as much as the marketing would like for you to believe. I have BOTH types that I purchased for less than $20 and my system looks and sounds fine.

But...

If you want to spend 200% more than you need to or more for name brand logos that go behind your system where no one can see then you shouldn't really ask for advice on what to get to begin with.

BTW Gold plated optical cables are the biggest ripoff ever, don't even consider them.

I have no clue why they are priced at 100 bucks. It's completely ludicrous.

Isn't "HDMI" supposed to be a one-cord-solution for both audio and visual?

Yes, but I believe HDMI, obviously does video but only multiple audio layers. When TOSLINK (Fiber Optical Optical Sound Cable) does completely uncompressed. It is also the best to use with a Surround Sound System, I currently don't have one, but once I get more money in a few months I will be buying one and I will be prepared. Sorry if I am a little off but that is currently what I know.

I ended up buying:

PREMIUM 6FT Optical Toslink Cable w/ Metal Fancy Connector $2.96

Both have a thick Net Jacket to help protect from unwanted "noise" etc and to help protect the cable from ruining the inside components (its hard to bend so you can't bend it like a straw and break the cables inside.)

High Speed HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified CL2 Rated (In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) w/ Net Jacket - 6ft (Gold Plated Connectors) $9.98

I don't think fiber optics suffer from noise problems like speaker wire does...
