Dish Network HD Local

(I dont remember if I asked here or another forum...)

Anyway, we pay the $5 extra a month to get the local channels. Will they come in HD? Or will i have to pay to upgrade the "free" OTA local channels to HD? If so, I might as well just go get them rabbit ears.

2 years ago the only channels you got in HD were the specific HD ones you paid for.

You may be better off getting rabbit ears hooked up to your set than paying extra for local channels.

Better to call the company just to make sure. The number is 1 888 825 2557

I figured. Im not gonna like switching between rabbit ears and the Dish box though.. :( Maybe I can convince my parents to upgrade..but I doubt it since they have a regular TV and its not a problem with them.

I'm not sure about Dish but with Comcast you have to get a higher plan and pay extra for HD channels. I'm pretty sure with any provider it costs money for any HD channels.
With my TV though, it has a QAM Digital tuner so I pick up local channels in digital with perfect HD quality picture.
So if you are wanting to know about the HD channels for your new TV, check out the features and it ought to have a tuner of sorts to pick up over the air local channels in Digital.

Dont you need the antennas though..?

I just emailed dish. Yea, I know, not as good as calling them. But this way is much easier at saying my dads name instead of the ID number and crap.

There should be one built into the tv, you will have to checkout the TV features.

I don't think there is an antenna built right in to the TV unless it is a portable. Sometimes the tube TVs come with an antenna usually the smaller models but I don't know of any flat screens that do.

IF you don't have a flat screen you shouldn't bother with HD I assume you know that and assume that is why you care for HD channels.
