Linux VM

Is there a Linux that is all ready to be loaded on to a VM that you could link me to? I've really been wanting to try it out ever sense i tried out a Live version of Slax v6.1.2. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advanced!!!

You could just try the live version of pretty much most linux distributions? It's easier then loading it to a VM.

Re: Linux VM

I was thinking of doing that too, but you wouldnt be able to save anything due to the fact that it would try to use the disk as a harddrive. Correct me if im wrong...

Re: Linux VM

Well you can "save" stuff but it will be gone when you restart your computer because it is all loaded in ram.

Re: Linux VM

Ya thats my point. Would it save it to your harddrive of it were on a VM? Another thing is once you burn it, you couldnt add any "apps" to the OS. One other thing is does Ubuntu automaticly detect your wireless card? A last thought, would it be possible to use a USB drive as a harddrive on the live version?

Re: Linux VM

Well I'm not the residential linux professional here but I'm just saying if you want to test out linux what I would do is just use the live version, and if you want to actually use it just split your partition real quick and dual boot. I've had problems before trying to run any OS in a VM, including hardware functionality. But you can use anything as a "hard drive" in the live version, the point is once you restart everything you did (aside from write files to non-volatile memory) will be gone. It's really just for testing out the OS to see if you want to give it a try.

Re: Linux VM

Any distro can be loaded into a VM. I recommend you use Virtualbox for the VM software. All you would need to do is get the ISO of any distribution you would like to try and create a new virtual machine. Here is a Virtualbox tutorial:

Re: Linux VM

I would partition it but i dont wanna go through the hassle to do, besides i kinda want a private OS for myself. So if i got the live version of Ubuntu would i be able to use a USB as a harddrive? Or could i also use my Pc harddrive as one for the live disk?

Re: Linux VM

You can install ubuntu on a Virtual Machine. Then you would have a private os.
