Re: Starcraft 2

Yep so my GTX 460 came in yesterday. My CPU is a [email protected] and I have 4 gigs of ram and I can notice a BIG improvement but I still can't max out all the visuals.

Still, the game looks so much better than it did before that I don't think I am missing that much.

What kind of rigs are you guys playing on?

Re: Starcraft 2

It's not running at max visuals because of your processor, Q. The E5300 was known to overclock pretty decently if you are able to. Even a core 2 duo processor, which you have, should be able to do pretty well around the 2.9 to 3.0ghz range.

That's not the best solution, to overclock, that is, but you might be able to squeeze a sizable amount of performance out of that chip while you save your pennies for another processor to go along with your OVER-THE-TOP graphics card ;)

Another route would be to change to AMD, which is cheaper. They have a 6 core entry-level 2.8ghz per-core processor for about $199.99. I'd say almost any processor that is a dual core and has 3.2ghz of power should be able to run it well-enough at max graphics considering you have an absolute BEAST of a graphics card - even better than mine.

Don't hate.

Besides it isn't even the top end one it's mid range. I think the GTX 480 is the big dog when it comes to video.

I need a new motherboard if I am going to keep this card because this videocard is literally the size of a brick. It's so large that it takes up the space of 3 slots and unfortunately for me it covers up my 2 remaining PCIe slots.

I think I am going to buy an SLI capable motherboard at some point I dunno we shall see.

Re: Starcraft 2

Using SLI on cards that take up so much space, as you say, 3 ports, isn't recommendable for expansion or dissipation of heat. I have an ATI 4890 1gb GDDR5. How does it stack up to mine?

Well if you have an ATI 4890 then the next comparable Nvida card would be a GTX 275, I have a GTX 460 so no comparison.

Re: Starcraft 2

How would my PC fare?

i7 920 - 2.67 GHz
4 GB RAM
ATI 4350 with 1 GB Memory

The Video card would hold me back quite a bit but I should be able to run it on about medium settings right?

Re: Starcraft 2

I think it would run fine on your system. They put a lot into the game but it isn't like it's a graphics hog. The detail is a bonus not a necessity so you should be fine.

yes your computer will run it. to be honest i think 99% of the people who play online run their graphics at low settings because if you`re running any higher it usually lags the game.

It'll play fine, and probably play in "highest" settings (depending on resolution), but you wouldn't WANT it running at max with that setup. It would run a crisp, good frame rate if you ran at "medium" type settings.

Do a www.canirunit.com test when they put the game on there. They may have already.

I'm pretty sure you meant to quote advent, although our setups are pretty similar as that I have amd/nvidia :p
